Yet another gem of a movie in the Balu mahendra style. Emotions expressed in the way so naturally in this
movie..No artificial dialogues. No hi-fi Stunt sequences.
Outline:
The movie starts with Dhanush, being a prisoner working in a jail. Then he tries escaping from
the jail as planned. As soon as he escapes, the police try to catch him by all means. Dhanush somehow
boards a lorry which is heading for ooty. The driver and the cleaner of the lorry recognise his face from the
wanted advertisement of police which appeared in the news paper. When they tend to handover Dhanush
to the police, he narrates the whole story what happened.
Flashback:- Dhanush is a teenage guy wandering out with his friends -- a freak out type. Being
the only son of Delhi Ganesh and his mother (Sorry..I dont know her name), he gets his full care and
affection from his mother though the dad seems to be strict.
Dhanush falls in love with their maid servant's daughter (Priyamani, who inturn was his childhood
friend). He struggles with his dad who doesn't want his servant maid to become his daughter in law. In the
meanwhile, dhanush and his friends get caught in police station for boozing and ramming their car into a
police jeep.
Accidentally, Dhanush happens to murder a co prisoner in the police station when the latter tries
to indulge in an ugly encounter. He is put up in jail and faces all tortures and pains. In the meanwhile he
suffers lot of agonies such as his mom passing away when he was in jail.... his lover (priyamani) and family
struggling for livelihood and so on.
At the time when he receives the letter from priyamani that, they are in a horrible condition, no
one tohelp, in their native (village near ooty), dhanush plans to escape and live with her in kerala in his
friends estate. Thus he escapes.But police arrives in that village much before, dhanush and were
anticipating the arrival of our hero. Thus Dhanush gets caught by the police as soon as he meets
priyamani.
But now the twist arises when the kind hearted police inspector, Rajendran (one who acted as
Inspector Peikaman in VIrumaandi) feels pity for him. On thw way back to jail, he stops the jeep carrying
the prisoner and lets other jeeps to pass away. Then asks Dhanush to run away and escape. This stunns
the constable who was in the jeep. Later the inspector explains the agonies faced by the youth after a
miserable accident. And also explains that the teenage couple should not be seperated for the sake of
police duty.
And thus the movie ends happily.....DHanush and Priyamani escapes to Kerala for a much
better livelihood.
Music:- Score was done y Ilaiyaraja. Songs were extremely well composed and so the BGM's (especially
teh scene where police tries to search for dhanush) even.
Title song wa sung by him itself "Kattu vazhi kalnadaya.... " lovely melody number. One could
say it is a replica of "unkutthama.." from Azhagi
The song "Kili Thattu ..Kili thattu " appears when dhanush and priyamani where in their
childhood days. This song features lots of kids in the chorus and sounds too good.
The duet that appears in the movie in "Andha naal gnayabagam.." where the picturisations
seems to be excellent.
Other aspects in the movie, such as cinematography, editing were also done to the best.
The only negative aspect of the movie was the irrelevant seducing number featuring a female dressed only
in the top, dreaming and dancing with Dhanush.
This movie was also a bit slow moving...might be the probable reason for this not turning out as a box
office hit.
