Action Replayy is romantic comedy set in 70's, basic plot being inspired from Back To The Future. Still, the movie succeeds in making its mark. Action Replayy is not a laugh riot, neither it is an extra ordinary love story or anything close to it. But, what works for it is the timing and the performances. Read on:

The Story:

Kishen [Akshay Kumar]  and Mala [Aishwarya Rai Bacchan] had an arranged marriage. It has been 35 years and the continuous quarreling hasn't stopped. On the night of there 35th anniversary, Another such explosive fight sparks between the two. Watching his parents, Bunty [Aditya Roy Kapur] has lost his faith in marriage and as a result he turns down the marriage proposal by his girlfriend Tanya [Sudeepa Singh]. But the only way of making his parents' marriage work and regaining his faith in marrying his girlfriend is going back in time using'The Time Machine' and make the two fall in love with each other. Bunty soon sets off to land in 1975 and change the world for him and his family.

What follows is a fun ride a lot a smiles, some good laughs and couple of heart warming moments.

The Direction:

Action Replayy opens with a typical old 70's background score, giving the name of the movie in English, Hindi and Urdu. And this for sure will give you a hit into the past. Vipul Amrutlal Shah makes his intentions clear at the very outset.'If the movie was hyped, you'll get what was expected'. The detailing, the sets, the background score are extremely adequate. The director takes into account that all his actors should look different from each other, which gives him the scope of spilling colors on screen which gives the movie a fresh feel. The editing is sharp leaving a 4-5 minutes choppable frames. Cinemetography deserves a special mention here, repeating what you did 30 years back is not an easy task. Hence, the direction scores.

The Performances:

Action Replayy belongs to Akshay and Aishwarya. Nothing beats Akshay in his comic timing and wierd lame and funny expressions, which do raise a lot of laughs at the right places. Aishwarya looks very pretty, and performs great too. [Watch out for her in Akshay's birthday sequences]. Aditya Roy Kapur is adequate, his dialogues could have been sharper. Rajpal Yadav strikes the right cord with only one dialogue all the time. Ranvijay is fine. Om Puri and Kirron Kherare good in there limited roles. **Neha Dhupia, Randhir Kapoor and Sudeepa Singh never get to speak.

Positives:

The performances keep the the movie binded. Smiles spark as soon as you see Akshay Kumar on screen. The background score by Salim-Sulaiman here is easiely one of the best this year. Perfect for the feel of the movie. Pritam's music is fun filled. The sets, VFX use and the people just present on the screen compliment the 70's era filming.

Negatives:

A 2 hour movie having 6 full legnth songs hurts the movie flow, the length of the songs could have been shortened. Talented actors like Om Puri and Kirron Kher were just used in gags, rather then any involvement in the script.

*Overall^

Action Replayy is a very light hearted movie with rich visuals and good performances. Does deserve watching for the effort made for going into the past.

After seeing the comparision with the brand'Golmaal' and trashy reviews on Action Replayy, the movie won't stay for very long. If you still wish to watch it, rush to your nearest theatres.
