Achuvinte Amma is a clean and beautiful movie that displays the true relationship of maternity in its real essence. Today, when the standard of Malayalam movies are dwindling to the level of some fabricated scenes running for three hours, Achuvinte Amma is a welcome break. It explores the depth of the bonding between two individuals in the role of a mother and daughter.

Sathyan Anthikad has done a wonderful job as a director. It is a nice feeling to see Urvashi back on the silver screen in such a sensible and sensitive role. Her role as Vanaja displays strength and grace that go hand in hand. Meera Jasmine, as Achu, is really cute and endearing. But, despite all the cuteness, the character displays an innate forte that fights all odds. Sunil, as Ijo, has proved himself a talented actor. He is a welcome change from the stereotypical image of the chocolate hero.

However, the strong point of the movie is its storyline. The story displays a high level of realism, with a fantastic climax. The movie keeps the audience guessing about the climax until it is completely revealed, in such a manner that even after the movie is long over, they are still pondering about how such a climax could be wonderfully interwoven in the movie. Kudos to the director and story-writer of the movie!!!

Another noteworthy point in the movie is the picturisation of songs, which other directors should try to emulate. Songs like ‘Enthu Paranjaalum’ and ‘Swaasathin Thalam’ are such a lovely relief to watch as against the typical hero-heroine-background dancers’ farce that you see in most movies. If you have observed the songs of this movie, you can feel the level of realism expressed in the movie. The situations in the songs are very real things that are part of the happenings in daily life and not an idealistic portrayal. I mean, in real life, has anyone so far, arranged a bunch of girls to dress up similarly and come and dance behind you when u r gyrating likewise with ur beau? But then, in Achuvinte Amma, Ijo and Ashwathy are practical characters that are part of the real world today…

So, all I have to say that this is a must-see for all Malayalis … Why I haven’t briefed the story is because if you have not watched the movie, you must go and watch the movie and never hear the story before the movie. Signing off with a hope that we can get to see movies of such quality,

Regards

Ameena
