Abirami mega mall does not fit into the definition of a mall. It is a building with many restaurants, few shops, kids play area and movie halls.
Pro:
Ticket availability for movies: Tickets are mostly available for movies in this theatre while the same movie is running house-full elsewhere.
Multiple selection in food court: Though cramped have quite a number of restaurants inside.
Decent kids entertainment: Play areas and experience facilities such as 7D etc., though not great in the way those are maintained. Rates are relatively low.
Cons:
Pretty cramped: There is very little space for public to walk around. You cannot avoid bumping on another person, if you visit the place on a weekend. Other malls like Phoenix, Ampa or Express Avenue are way more airy and spacious in comparison.
Facilities for public movement is pathetic. The bubble lift can hardly accommodate 6 people at a time. Most end up climbing stairs which again is not wide enough.
Cramped parking for cars - Using a lift for cars to reach rooftop parking [cool for the first occasion:) ], is a pain since there are only 2 lifts which does the job of both taking up and bringing down the vehicles. On weekends the long list of cars make it an ordeal to wait for your turn to either go up or come down from the parking. The parking space is adequate only for some 60cars.
Theatre is poor on several parameters:
4a. Shared toilets for movie-goers and commoners visiting the mall. This makes the queue longer and you may miss the portion of movie immediately after the interval.
4b. The theatre seating is not appropriate for small kids <7yr olds, though a lot of the movies run there are for kids.
4c. The'in-theatre food service' team spoils the experience of watching the movie. During the movie they keep showing up with a torch light and bother you with questions on whether we need snacks! If some moron wish to eat something, these guys orally list the menu WHILE MOVIE IS ON!
Poor class of visitors: Sad but true. I see a lot of guys visiting this mall just to rub against woman in the crowd, taking the opportunity of the cramped set up.
Unhygienic Toilets - One among the worst which I could find in any of the malls in Chennai. It stinks, while women complain of infections after returning from mall(if they visited the toilets). Lead me to believe of poor housekeeping by authorities.
Conclusion:
You are single: You want to watch a movie desperately and found the tickets in the theatres there, then go to this mall.
For families: Use public transport to reach the mall and eat at the many restaurants on ground floor or take your kids to play area. Return after this. Nothing such as product experience showrooms which are found in other malls.
