What can we expect from Ram Gopal Varma and his factory?Of course,we cannot expect family movies,love stories,etc.from him.When we hear his name we can expect something different or realistic.Ram Gopal Varma has previously highlighted,the underworld dons theme,in his films be it Satya or Company.This time too,he highlights the ‘ghunda gardi’,on the streets of Mumbai,but he finds a solution to this also.The solution is a cop.This time he is back with his latest film Ab Tak 56,which is a realistic film,based on the life of a cop.What does a police inspector do? How does he kill someone?How are his relationships with his family?This film shows it all.

THE FILM:

Varma Corp./K Sera Sera`s Ab Tak Chhappan,directed by Shimit Amin stars Nana Patekar,Revathy,Nakul Vaid,Yashpal Sharma,Jeeva,Mohan Agashe and Hrishitaa Bhatt.This film marks the comeback of Nana Patekar,in a complete and different form.How much does he impress and more than that how much the film impress?

THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:

1.Sadhu Agashe(Nana Patekar):Sadhu Agashe is a cop,who is stone-hearted during his duty and a light-hearted person when he is at home.He feels that before thinking a criminal should be killed.He is a gifted police inspector to his country.Nana Patekar is the one on whose shoulders the film rests,and to be true he gives a breakthrough performance.Nor does he shouts,neither does he scream or overact.He remains sober,patient and witty throughout the movie.After small roles in Bhoot and Darna Mana Hai and giving an over-the-top performance in the B-grade film Aanch,the actor is back with full action.From his face expressions to his dialogue delivery to his way of walking,talking,Nana Patekar is excellent.He looks like a police inspector.

2.Namita(Revathi):Namita is your normal Indian housewife.She is Sadhu Agashe`s wife,a cop`s wife.The wife of such a man who is involved in a very risky job.Revathy once again impresses the viewers after giving great performances in Darna Mana Hai and Dhoop.Of course,her role is not too lengthy,because this film is a male-dominated flick,still she manages to leave an impression on the viewers.

3.Imtiaz Siddiqui(Yashpal Sharma):Imtiaz Siddiqui is also an inspector who is jealous of Sadhu

Agashe,of his fame and perfection.He doesn`t support him,at all.Yashpal Sharma in his villainous act also gives an amazing performance.He has been playing such villainous roles in several films like Lagaan,Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost,etc.,and this time too he does a good job.

Others are good,too!Mohan Agashe does justice to his role.Jeeva is fine.Nakul Vaid is excellent,where as Hrishitaa Bhatt as his fiancée`,doesn`t get much scope to perform.

THE STORY:

The story revolves around an honest and a very responsible police inspector,Sadhu Agashe,who kills all the criminals of Mumbai.His hard work and so much of enthusiasm for his work is appreciated by everyone,except from some like Imtiaz Siddiqui,who is jealous of him.Imtiaz Siddiqui tries hard to get Sadhu Agashe in trouble,but fails miserably.One day,his loving wife,Namita is murdered,which makes Sadhu go through a terrible phase of his life.He opts out of his job,but his friends from his team are after him.They want to kill him.In this situation,Sadhu Agashe has to join hands with his enemies.

THE WORK OF THE CREW::

A film is a good one,if it is directed well,and the director Shimit Amin deserves full marks,here.Although,his debut as a director,Shimit Amin does a wonderful job.he has handled all the scenes of this film,so well,that you will be kept hooked to the screen.The film doesn`t make you get bore and yawn at all.Sadhu Agashe`s character is shown very well,during the first half of the film.The film has been given a wonderful treatment.The scene where Namita dies is executed,very well,without any melodrama.Sadhu Agashe`s relationship with his wife and son is shown in a very realistic manner.Screenplay is excellent.As the film moves further,it gets more and more gripping,as well.Editing is also fine,except for the film drags at places,but this thing can be very easily avoided.Salim-Sulaiman`s background music is effective,as ever.The background music supports the film,throughout because it`s exciting,it`s filled with suspense,it makes you feel as if you`re on a roller coaster ride.The film has no songs,at all and this is another plus point for the film,as songs in such film,are not needed at all.Sandeep Srivastava`s dialogues are extremely,well-written.They are witty as well as ”tikaaoo”(sorry for using a Hindi word,this means,accurate).Vishal Sinha`s cinematography is brilliant.The camera movements at each and every scene of the film are very suitable which match with the mood of an action film like this one.

ON THE WHOLE:

”Ab Tak Chhappan” (or ”Ab Tak 56”,as you like),is STRICTLY for those viewers,who liked films like ”Company”,”Satya” or even ”Khakee”(though there are no Miss World and Miss Universe,in this one).The film is filled with fights,violence and action which may not gel well with the viewers who like Karan Johar or yash Chopra films.For others,who like to see realistic and sensible cinema,this one is a treat.The film remains ON---THE---TRACK,not at all,getting out of its track.So with such an on the track movie,you`ll definitely remain on your seat.

My Final verdict:Highly recommended.
