Sach !!! bahut hi ajeeb o gareeh hota hai yeh sach , asamanya , adbuth , kalpana se bhi zyaada vichitra hota hai yeh sach … askar !!! ( Truth !!! is very funny , abnormal , miraculous , Often , Truth is very different from fantasy !!!).A dangerous game is about to begin … A man in a white attire , in a room lit up by candles, sits in their midst , with is fire in his eyes . Aankhen directed by Vipul shah is like a castle made by a child , and its not a sand castle , but a castle with stones and mortar , very incomplete and sketchy. Inspired by the Gujarati play ''Andhalo Patlo'' which means Blind mans buff , this is a story of a schizophrenic who takes revenge on the Bank from which he has been dismissed by staging a bank robbery with the help of 3 Blind men.
Story
A very original story adapted from the play , what could have come across as a brilliant piece of work , has been sadly reduced to a caricature. Though the script was good , the execution wasn't. Also it had a certain unbelievable touch to it, which could have been improved upon by presenting it in the right manner.
Direction and Screenplay
Direction was not upto the mark , the first half was a tad slow , though the training session was quite well taken . Some sequences like the bank robbery though taken quite well lacked momentum thereafter. In cricket follow through is very important , the same way in movies if the momentum is not carried along , then the movie loses its pace. There are many loose ends and unbelievable scenes too in the movie. The climax was extended a bit too far. And speaking about Sixth sense , more than Akshay I had a wonderful sixth sense as I knew what would happen next , it was so predictable !!!.
Art Direction and Makeup
Art direction always plays an important part in any movie, as the sets need to be very realistic. Here the Bank looked too made up with uniformed staff !!! , well that's ok but a Fluorescent Green uniform , gimme a break … The ''Training Centre'' looked like an extremely cheap imitation of the Comic Strip magician Mandrake's Xanadu. With such shoddy sets how could you try and influence people. The viewers nowadays are very mature and intelligent and expect much more than this mediocore Stuff.
Any First Grade child would tell that Akshay Kumar's nose looked out of place, Paresh Rawal also looked made up , Arjun Rampal's make up was state of the art , and that's because he was in a Burkha !!! .
Music and Background Score
Music was pretty decent but it marred the flow of the movie , when Amitabh is explaining how Akshay lost his eye , we have a song with madame Bipasha basu, how can you expect us to continue with the story with such a major distraction !!!. The only song somewhat through the flow was ''Chalka Chalka'' , but even in that the babe took your mind off the story , and pray tell me have you even seen anyone swimming in Johnny Walker Red label , hmmm watch the movie for this ''adbuth Vichitra Sach''.
Performances
Amitabh is a great actor and is well respected, but I would like to disagree on the hype that he acted brilliantly. He was good in parts but not a consistent performance throughout the movie. Sushmita Sen , my goodness she can ham very well , a clear case of over the top acting. Akshay was mediocore , his sixth sense goin a bit too far, and would someone please rub off that stupid grin on his face !!!, especially during the Bank robbery it looked mighty pathetic . Arjun Rampal certainly seems to grow as an actor , a good performance. The person who carried whatever was left of the movie on his shoulders was Paresh Rawal , Brilliant , mindblowing, some excellent one liners and that demeanour to carry it off , he is the saving grace.
Well that's Aankhen for you , for the expectations one had it was disappointing, probably can watch once, but then that's just for you to know the reality !!!
