Bollywood is still my passion. Despite the heavy work load and sardardwork schedule, I still manage to find time for a couple of movies over the weekend. Ands I have learnt over the years, that the only way one can be totally unbiased in making his own judgement is watching a movie alone. So much so, I love watching movies alone; though I am very impatient in watching them at home. So I prefer multiplexes.

2008 has been pretty bad for Bollywood flicks. What have we got this year. The biggest hit Race was a damp squib. Never watched Jodha Akbar. Sunday was timepass, and few others I watched were b-shit. I had given up on Bollywood cinema. Till I watched Aamir.

I had heard good things about it so planned to watch it at my favourite and nearest theatre. It was playing in only one show. Though I was very sleepy, as I hadn't slept the previous night properly, I manged to keep myself awake; and loved every bit of the movie. Its short, crisp, and very well acted and narrated. Holds you right from the first frame till the last. Not even one scene where the director lets go of the narrative. Though it follows a uni-dimensional path (its very difficult to maintain the audience's interest - its a big risk in such a storyline), it makes you thoroughly engrossed. Shot exection is brillant and seems heavily inspired from the RGV school of film-making. No wonder this guy assisted Anuraag Kahyap in No Smoking.

Also shows the differences in mentality between the liberal and the extremist mindsets of society in a simple way: without going overboard.

Climaxof the film leaves a deep impact and one of the better ones I have watched in recent times. I was always wondering throughout the movie what will eventually happen to Aamir. And thats the beauty - it was so unpredictable. and the director gave it a terrific climax - one of the best directed scenes in the film.

Rajiv Khandelwal is in one way outstanding. The camera follows his facial expressions from frame one to last and he's so consistently natural; you actually begin to get so involved with his character that you feel he's a part of your life. The other guy, the bald terrorist is excellent as well.

Background score of the movie is quite appropriate with its theme and one of its highlights.

and Mumbai has never been captured the way it has been in Aamir. You can almost smell the surroundings.

The film left a tremendous impact on me. Not just coz of the way it was handled and all its positive aspects, but made me realize. It could happen to any one of us.

would rate it four out of five. A must watch for lovers of quality cinema
