Come Dance - Aaja Nachle Album review

Originality:

A seasoned performer, portraying a role for umpteenth time. and the very same reason makes a movie look deliciously fresh! Call it an irony, but the obvious thing which makes Aaja Nachle stand out is a “still ravishing” Madhuri Dixit. With a tempting title which invites one to come dance(with Madhuri), it has already send a pulse through the nation. A movie which is a ‘dance musical’ definitely needs to have good songs, and music director Salim-Sulaiman was able to provide just that.

To be honest, it took only 10 seconds for the album to impress me. The album starts with a mesmerizing sarangi note followed by a half-groovy classical dance background score, And I was all impressed!. First song  “Aaja Nachle” sung by Sunidhi Chouhan delivers what the song title promises. The sarangi score comes periodically throughout, and the song ends in the same note. Usage of Tabla is very impressive in this song, especially towards the end of second stanza. This one looks to climb the charts, if its not already there right now. All in all a well composed and performed song.

Album continues with “Dance with Me” which sounds like a song from 80’s club music album. Nothing “new” in this song, I would skip reviewing it. Then comes two foot-tapping numbers of the movie. The one which they are airing at this point of time “Show Me Your Jalwa” and the one with the voice of  brilliant Sukhwinder Singh “Soniye Mil Ja”. Both are pretty decent dance number, with latter having an edge over the former. Both songs together set the tone for this dance musical.

Its time to be romantic now, and trust me… it gets really REALLY romantic. Two of my recent favorite romantic duets belong to this album.  Sonu Nigam and Shreya Goshal delivers awesome rendition which makes you sit and wonder who sings better(which eventually will end up unanswered.). Both “Is Pal” and “Ishq Hua” is a celebration of melody, something which is like an endangered species in Bollywood music jungle. Both songs are well composed and nicely sung.

As any recent bollywood albums, this one also feature a song sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. And as usual he has done a good job, and as usual it’s a slow song, and as usual it has good Hindustani classical background, and as usual sufficient Urdu words… Well you know what I am talking about, lets move to the next song.

Album has another slow song which sounds very similar to those songs which showcase the suffering of “mother characters” portrayed by Nirupa Roy. And a remixed version of  “Aaja Nachle” without half of the vocals, which is surprisingly pretty good.

I must say it didn’t live up to the expectation the album has set on me in the first 10 seconds. But this one is a pretty decent collection of well composed songs. I would buy this album for those two romantic numbers, the captivating saarangi and the photo of Madhuri on album cover.
