It is widely reported in the media, particularly in Delhi that Aaj Tak is the most popular news channel; but I am not really impressed by their presentation and overall appearance. The channel surely gets lot of advertising- particularly from the hindi spoken north belt and basically it caters to those people rather than to a true national audience. The language is typically hinglish.
The newsreaders are not really as good as NDTV. I find the presentation of news here is more often from the perspective of the people of the hindi spoken area and the news also mostly are from these areas. In this respect NDTV or even Zee news has more wider perspective. The newsreaders of Aaj Tak presents news more like entertainment programme- and rarely there are in depth analysis and I often find the newsreaders are not that knowledgeable. Because of this it is sometimes very difficult to take them seriously- where NDTV (both Hindi & English) is far better. The presentation of sports news and business news also not that good- its more loose talk and less information. Prabhu Chawla's face-to-face is very widely publicised but his leanings towards the ultra-rightists becomes apparent very often as his lack of knowledge about the regions beyond the hindi spoken area. That's not surprising because for Aaj Tak that is not important.
