Aaj Tak, Zee News, Star News, Sahara Samachar, etc. they all represent different colours on screen and they do have different commercial interests behind the screen as well. This becomes all the more visible when we see the kind of reporting they resort to. One set of news items can be seen taking a number twists and turns during the course of the day.

The youth brigade, though very much energetic and full of youthful enthusiasm, sometimes cuts a very sorry figure while analysing the news. Moreover, it is also a fact that gradually the Indian audience has started tasting the preparations other than the state owned Doordarshan. But the crop of channels, makes it too cumbersome to watch NEWS, reason ? they need frequent breaks for commercials.

I still appreciate BBC and CNN for their in-depth analysis and full screen views for longer durations. But, our Aaj Tak?s are happy to showcase a screen full of Red Lava like visuals full of cheap commercials, interspersed with bit of news. Moreover, in order to be the first amongst the equals, the channels start a race to shell out the NEWS in the form of a party dish, with full of mirch and masals. This sometimes presents a very confusing picture for the audience, because the channels start teaching the audience ?what is wrong and what is right?, instead of presenting an objective news.

The veteran war horse, Doordarshan, is yet to catch the eyes of our beloved Minister Sh. S. Jaipal Reddy, who is fully responsible for bringing DD to such a state, by creating a half baked Prasar Bharati. Perhaps in near future, we may see a comprehensive media policy, with proper space and tolerance for each and everyone.
