America online or better known to most as AOL. I use to have AOL; in fact I had it for almost 3 years. Then one day I decided it wasn’t worth the cost, and that I could use the AOL instant messenger service for free. I only liked AOL because I could talk to all my friends and family, but with the free messenger I don’t need to pay for AOL any more.

I’m not saying that AOL is the worst ISP server in the world, but it’s just not what I was looking for. Here are some of the features you have with this ISP.

Email

When you sign on to AOL, and you have mail, you will hear a voice say “You Got Mail”. Now this is pretty cool, I did like the fact that this voice told me I had mail. Email is easy to use on AOL, and you can save your address just like other email programs. You can attach files and send as well. There is only one problem that I have found with AOL mail, and this is you get tons upon tons of junk mail and porno. This is a major problem and I dislike the fact that I couldn’t filter out those junk mails.

Favorites

Just like your regular IE you can also save your favorite websites on this ISP as well. You can drag and drop a “heart” into your email and send that web link to others if you choose. The favorites work the same as all others.

Member search

Now this feature was cool, I was able to search AOL for other members that might be on that ISP. You just type in their names and where they live and if they are a member then it will give you their screen name.

Chat Rooms

There are many different kinds of chat rooms, but I have to say I really didn’t enjoy them. You go to a room of your choice and once you are in there you think they will all be talking about the said “topic”, but instead all you see is people telling everyone their age location and gender. Then you have people trying to IM ya and talk dirty and sexual to you. I really wasn’t thrilled about the chat rooms.

Instant Messenger

Now this was my favorite part of AOL. I was able to add my family and friends to my buddy list and when they would come on I could hear a door open telling me that someone just signed on. You can also set up your list to block people who you wish to not speak with. I love to use this, but now I use the free service that you can download.

All in all I really felt that AOL just wasn’t the best ISP. I’m very happy that I discontinued my service with this company. I have a local server now that I use and it’s a lot cheaper and I have all the same things that I could do on AOL. So I say stay away from AOL and find a better local server to us and just download the AOL instant messenger at https://aol.com
