I am having ABN Amro Gold card for about a year now. I have rarely used it as there is a Big problem to pay the Bills as one has to either go to the bank for cash or to their drop boxes for checque deposite if you dont have a Acc with them. Anyway the issue wasn't that.


Firstly they keep on callin and disturbing the customers with various promotional offers on the cards.Most of these offers are travel related(atleast I used to get the max. calls regarding this) and these offers are totally useless or too expensive. Hardly there is any proper tems and condition mentioned, only the amount to be deducted for the service is clearly mentioned. Some days back I got a call from one of their employees claiming to be the manager of a branch in Del. He told me that my card will be upgraded to a Special Gold card with Chip, which comes with a travel package in India and abroad for 3 nights 2 days just for Rs.250. The upgradation charges are Rs4500, but will be waived of in my case. I was reluctant initially but later decided to go for it after continuous persuasion.


I was told by this so called branch manager that, when the verification dept call they will ask for the Rs. 4500, just agree to him as he will arrange everythin from the back end , which the person from the verification dept may not be aware of. I did so and the card was sent within 2 days. Just when I was about to activate I realized that I have been fooled. They told me I will be charged as there was no such offers. I tried to contact the so called branch manager, but nowhere he was to be located. I tried to call him many a times but he just evaded receiving the calls.


Now this experience of mine proves how cleverly the bank is cheating on the consumers here. It may be a case of a Sales employee to meet his target , but sure the bank is responsible for this.
