Story:

At first, I compared A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS with THE KITERUNNER, one of the most touching stories I have ever heard in my life, and A THOUSAND.looked like a bit slow and ordinary, but as the story progressed, I wondered how Khalid Hoseini has got almost extraordinary insight into women lives and how no matter what where a woman lives or her educational status, the plight and spirit remains same. This is so wonderful.

A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS, the title is taken from a poem on Kabul where poet says Kabul's walls can contain a thousand splendid suns and same amount of moons, such is the wall of Kabul.A poem told by a father to his innocent daughter, who doesn't know after a while the same Kabul will convert into a crowd of demolished houses and fundamentalist forces wrecking the city and its people alike.

Not only the story reflects the plight and agony of people of Afghanistan for last three generations in a war ravaged scenario, but specially reflects the kind of lives women lived there or are living. Its story revolves around three women of three generations, Nana, Mariam and Laila whose lives are interlinked.

The story also reflects the world wide nature of relationship of men and women, only rarely a relationship being so pure and good as between Laila and her childhood friend turned husband.

Its beyond doubt Khalid listens to such innumerable stories of grief and still hope emerging in his work environment, he being a social worker and a doctor, but its the story telling talent which he always exhibits in his works.

Khalid, we look forward to listening many other real life inspired stories and will always get inspired from your characters you portray in your stories and cling to this mysterious thing called life which is a combination of sorrow and still optimism that something great  still waits for us which will give us some peace.
