Jeffory Archer's account of his stay in Bellmarsh prison (for 22 days) is a very good eye opener of life in prison. Ever since the start of his life in bellmarsh, he lived a life of a celebrity.
This first person narrative introduces one to life in one of England's harshest prisons. The thing I liked most about the book was Jeforry Archer's unbaised view of happenings within the prison. He tells the stories from both sides of the bars, giving us even the prison guards perspectives.
However, thoroughout his book he makes only fleeting refrences to his case. He does not let the reader know the details of his case leading to his arrest and subsequent lock-up in bellmarsh.
His day-to-day (in fact, nearly hourly) recollection of life in Bellmarsh prison throws up a multitude of emotions from the reader. How he was treated in prison, and how he builds relationships there make for very good reading.
His stay in bellmarsh is for only 22 days because after that he gets transfered to an open prison. The diary ends at this point.
Worth a read.
