Suno Suno O Hindi Walon!. Review on 7G Rainbow Colony Movie

A REQUEST:If u are a movie freak and u don’t know tamil plz plz go through this review. First of all let me explain u the significance of the title. This review is about a tamil movie which was one of the biggest blockbusters down south in 2004. I don’t think any south indian movie freak will find a single new word in this review (so much has been written already). Also I have seen that not many people read reviews on regional movies which is justified as they are unaware of the language. So I tried to write a review so that people (specially northies) may know what a splendid movie they have been bereft because of not having the knowledge of tamil.Before talking about the movie, here are some questions I would like to ask some question to the females reading this review.1) Can u imagine falling in love with a guy with 5 back papers each year? (May be!).2) Can “ “ “ who love to create a scene in a theatre by whistling and dancing in front of the screen.(not sure but….)3) Can u “ “ guy who doesn’t leave a 40 years old too when it comes to eve teasing. (what the hell !) 4) Can u “ “ “ guy who whenever look at u , first stares at your …….( u) Almost 99% of u would have reacted as shown in parenthesis. I know it’s time for u to left this review here only but wait.......Listen to answer before leaving.The answer is “YES”. U can fall in love with him because love is not always about adoring goody-goody things about each other. LOVE means ‘just love’ and true love knows no boundary. It can desire anything, anyone even whom u might have hated the most in ur life.Believe me after watching this flick u will agree with every single word of mine.NOW THE FILM:The story begins in Chennai showing our hero kathir(Ravi krishna) working in a software firm. It’s 7:o clock and he is desperate to leave the office as soon as possible because he has to meet his girlfriend. On the stormy night when whole world is inside their home kathir is waiting on a park bench for his girlfriend with a bouquet in his hand.HERE STARTS THE FLASHBACK:Few years ago and Kathir is a spoilt middle class youth. He is pathetic in studies, average in games, good at drinking and smoking, excellent in rowdiness and mind blowing when it comes to girls(huh! I think this much characterization is enough!). His father always curses the day he was born. The only companion he has is his best friend Laxmi who is always there for him. Enter into his colony is a north Indian family consisting of our heroine Anita (Sonia Agarwal). Sonia is a quintessential urban, educated and sensible metro girl who has her dream of achieving something before settling down. She has a boyfriend who always reminds her how his father is helping her family financially and always tries to take advantage of her.One day Sonia goes to a theatre to watch a movie where she finds Kathir howling, whistling and doing all sorts of nonsense and also her boyfriend falls in a confrontation with him. Obviously she develops an instant hatred for him. Again during a cultural festival in their colony Sonia when performing to “dola re” from devdas, Kathir and his friends jump on to the stage and start doing nautanki in order to tease her. On the same day at night during a society film screening (a la Swadesh). Anita mistakes him for his sister and starts talking to him until she notices it was he not his sister. Kathir is mesmerized by her charm and falls in love with him.But how would a rowdy love someone? Will her love change him in one day?Certainly not, so here is the way our hero shows his affection towards her. He follows her all day, in college, at bus stop, in society almost everywhere. He is ready to beat anyone who dares to come near her. He also sends 1 love letter to her.While during all these Anita tries her best to remain calm and ignore him.One day while traveling in an over crowded bus, kathir was standing behind anita and asking her why she didn’t replied to his letter. Suddenly driver applies brakes and kathir’s hand slips in wrong place. Anita lost her control and burst apart all her anger on him. Kathir gets beaten black and blue by the public and they send him to police station.After that day kathir also tries to ignore Anita until the the karwa chauth night where he expresses his feelings towards her in a splendidly shot rain dance sequence. If this was the act of his passion for her, she got a glimpse of its intensity the very next day when her boy friend sends some goons to make him out of her way. He bashes them like an insane maniac. Though being hurt badly, he doesn’t stop until all of them flew away. After finishing with them he tells Anita that now onwards he won’t come in her way.He keeps his words too but what if the story is going to take a U-turn. So its Anita now stalking him and within a short span of time they both decided to unite forever. Anita helps Kathir to transform from a road-side loafer to a sensible working youth. One day Anita’s mother saw them together and fires at them. When kathir’s parents tries to talk to her she gave them the typical north-south crap and they move to another area. After initial hesitations Anita elopes with Kathir but in the climax she fells into dilemma. It was then when they were standing road side a truck ran over both Kathir and Anita. When kathir wakes in the hospital struggling with a head injury he learns that Anita is no more. But his true love didn’t allow letting Anita go. So he becomes a schizophrenic and continues to live with his Anita forever.APART FROM STORY:Selvaraghavan the director, only 3 films old has almost become Sanjay Leela Bhansali of south with his cult classics like ‘kaadal kondein’ and ‘7G RAINBOW COLONY’. He has been often bereted to use sex laden themes in all his movies, but apart from Raj Kapoor no indian director has involved sex in a movie in this beautiful and meaningful way.Music by Yuvan Shanker Raja(son of Illaya Raja) is one of the most memorable tamil album in recent years. Every song though picturised brilliantly, leaves an impact even after the movie.Ravi Krishna delivered a sincere attempt in an author backed debut. Sonia Agarwal sizzles(both in acting and appearence) once again after kaadal kondein. The former Miss Punjab when failed to find any takers in bollywood went down south and today is one of the most sought actress there.Vijayan in kathir’s father role is also superb. The actor playing Laxmi was a pleasure to watch as hero’s sidekick.I have shown this movie to many of my friends and not single one of them hadn’t felt a lump in his /her throat while watching the movie. Some people don’t consider it as a love story (because of some unconventional sequences) but for me it will always be one of the best love stories on Indian screen. Every love story needn’t have to end on a rosy note. That’s why people remember “ek duje ke liye” and “qayamat se qayamat tak’’till now.7- G went one step ahead by daring to show dark realities of human life along with an equally poignant and haunting ending. A PIECE OF ADVICE:1)If u understand tamil and haven’t seen this flick u must rush to catch a CD or DVD today itself..2)If u don’t understand tamil rent a DVD and watch it with subtitles.
