- A search in secret India - Paul Brunton.
No exaggerations, just plain truth. The topics like'An anchorite of Adyar river', 'The sage who never speaks' are some of my favourites which I have been reading numerous times.(Try to buy an used old copy of this book which has rare pictures of Yogi Brama, Yogi Ramaiah etc., Latest editions have no picture at all). Paul Brunton's attitude of not blindly believing superficial myths and yet being open minded and honest makes the book true joy to read through. Amazing and subtle sense of humour. Keep your dictionary ready while reading this book.
- Voice of Divine(7 volumes) - Ra.Ganapathy
Try to read it in the source(Tamil), if you know Tamil. It is the compendium of speeches given by Sri Chandrasekharendra saraswathi swamigal over decades.'Voice of Divine' sheds light on what hinduism is all about. It details the science and deeper rationale behind vedas, varnashrama dharma, Gods, Upanishads, fasting, Law of Karma, Heaven, hell and what not. Must read.
- At the eleventh hour - Pandit Rajmani Tigunait
It is the biography of Swami Rama. Lots of interesting and rare incidents which are not mentioned in'Living with the Himalayan masters' book. Another book by the same author, 'Touched by Fire' is also good. Especially the chapters about Swami Sadananda.
- Living with the Himalayan Masters - Swami Rama
Amazing book that details the incidents from the life of Swami Rama. Lots of amazing pictures.
- Autobiography of a Yogi - Sri Paramahamsa Yogananda
It is said on Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaccson that, Steve used to read'Autobiography of a yogi' every year at least once. It is a pure delight and inspiration to read about saints like Lahiri Mahasaya, Yukteshwar and Ramgopal Majumdhar.
