'Book is a present you can open again and again'

I read this on a bookmark my dad gave me, and it just kind of stuck to me. But it is true, books are amazing things. Selon moi, a good book is one which you can lose yourself in, one which can transport you to a new world. They can help you to chillax when you're tired or stressed. They can liven up the dullest atmosphere on a boring day.

The books I really love are always there for me on my bookshelf, when I need a break from reality. Here are 5 of my favourites:

Born Confused Tanuja Desai Hidier

Haan, pata hai, I've already written a review on this book.. dont worry, Im not going to say much about it again! I think the main reason to why I love this book is because there is so much in it that I can relate to. That always helps in making a successful book ? when the reader can look at it and be like ?Omg! That is soooo much like my friend whoever, or that exact same thing happened to me once!? No one had ever told me about this book before, so I had to discover it for myself. Some times it helps to judge a book by its pretty cover?(Im glad I did!)

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

Then theres the total opposite side of the line from reality - complete fantasy, which you can not relate to. But this makes a book just as effective, by adding masala to your ordinary world and showing you new ones.

His Dark Materials is a trilogy, comprising of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. It follows the story of the little girl Lyra, who alters the course of her universe and the many others around her, whilst still going through all the awkwardness of growing up.

She meets Will who is just a couple of years older than her, but from another world. I think it is amazing how brave both these nearly-teenagers are, and how strong they are - physically and emotionally. Together they travel through the many worlds, battling it out, meeting the dead, bringing an end to the Authority, solving the mystery of Dust, and ultimately falling in love.

I know Im summarising the story, but you have to read the books yourself to truly understand it. Honestly speaking, the first few chapters of each book seemed to d r a g along, but after that there I just could not stop. Each page adds a new piece to the jigsaw puzzle, but they all come together eventually. Philip Pullman (author) is an incredible writer- I think this story is amazing, a story which I would never be able to write in a million years. But if I had to change one thing about the book then it would definitely be the ending.

After finishing the series I just could not sleep the whole night, it got me thinking so much! And it changed my outlook on life. This trilogy was voted in the top 5 most popular books in Britain. So if my ramblings didnt make you want to read it, Im sure that fact will!

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

If all these philosophical baatein go right over your head then fikar not! Sometimes a light book with a few twists and turns and a happy ending is always good. I?m a great fan of candy floss romances!

The Princess Diary is about Mia Thermopolis, a teenage girl living in New York with a single parent. Suddenly one day she finds out that she is the heir to the throne of a small European nation. Problem after problem seems to crop up in her life, but that dilemma always gets solved by the end of the book.

Mia is a girl who, no matter how rich and famous she becomes, always stands up for what she believes in. And Michael, he is just wow! He is every girls dream guy, but for now he belongs to Mia. It was sheer genius of Meg Cabot to invent such unique characters. Its come to a stage where I can?t imagine my life without Meg Cabot (author) and the whole Princess Diaries crew. Its a shame the movies dont follow the books. Read the books!

Also, no Princess Diaries would mean no Hello Dollie. And no Hello Dollie would mean no Sid. And no Sid would just be bad!

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

No matter how many times people have put this in their own lists I dont think mine would be complete without it. Need I say more?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I have so many books that I love, but only one left to write about so I thought Id chose this one...

''It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.'' This is the opening sentence of the story, and the most famous. This quote is something Mrs Bennet, the mother in the Bennet family around which this story revolves, firmly believes in. Her one and only aim in life is to get all her five daughters married to agreeable young men with large fortunes.

The main character of the book is Elizabeth Bennet, also called Eliza or Lizzie, the most different of all the ladies. Any other lady would not go three miles to visit someone just after it had rained without a carriage. Another thing about her; she doesnt care what other people think of her. She is outgoing and speaks her feelings. Maybe her uniqueness makes her her fathers favourite and her mothers least dearest. The other protagonist is Mr Darcy, a good man at heart but his pride seems to get the better of him.

There is not much I can say about the story without going on and on, so its better if you read the book yourself. I had always thought of it as boring before reading it, and I expect I would never have read it, if it wasn?t for the Big Read, in which this novel came second. I would recommend it to any one who likes a taste of the past, has a good understanding, and a lot of time! It needs to be read at a good pace, so that the story can be understood, but if the reading is to slow then the story tends to drag on. But it was a really interesting novel and I enjoyed reading it.

Well these are my favourite books, Id love to hear about yours
