ABOUT THE BOOK
Like all other Agatha Christie books in the Marple series,this book is all about suspense and unexpected revelations.The plot is very innovative and believeable.
THE CHARACTERS
Miss Marple-"the old pussy" always getting herself involved in the homicide cases,some way or the other.
Mrs.McGillicuddy,Miss Marples friend,ever ready to do her duty and show that she is a responsible citizen.She witnesses a murder.
Lucy Eyelesbarrow,a domestic labourer,who helped and adviced people on how to solve their domestic labour problems for money.
Detective-Inspector Craddock,a good and smart Detective of the scott-land yard and the godson of Miss Marple's friend Sir Henry Clithering,ex-commissioner of the Scott-land Yard.
Then comes the Crackenthorpes and their family doctor Doctor Quimper.The father Crackenthorpe was supposed to be mentally disbalanced by everyone. His eldest son and daughter are dead.He lives with his younger daughter who is clearly in love with Doctor Quimper.His other three sons are only untimely visitors.Brian,his eldest son-in-law and Brian's son Alexander are also visitors at old Crackenthorpe's old,big mansion.
THE STORY
Well the story is somewhat like this : As two trains run side by side,Mrs.McGillicuddy(returning from London) witnesses a murder-a man mercilessly tightening his grip around a woman's throat-and then the train draws away.She immediately reports what she has seen but no one is ready to believe her as no corpse is found,except her friend Miss Marple.
Miss Marple deduces where the body can be and appoints Lucy to find it out.Lucy gets a job at the Crackenthorpes' and accordingly starts her search for the body in the Crackenthorpe campus as that is where Miss Marple believes the body is hidden.And guess what Lucy finds it !! Well then all the Crackenthorpe family come for the investigations and two of them get murded !! The police suspects the murdered woman to be old Crackenthorpe's eldest daughter-in-law and that the murderer belongs to the Crackenthorpe family.But no!The climax is really unexpected.Miss marple finds out the murderer and the cause of the three murders which is really very shocking.....
MY VIEWS
The climax is really the most interesting part of this book.The language used by the author is very simple.The book is not over-fictious,we can feel that something like this can happen in reality.This book is a must-read for all according to me.
