3000 Miles To Graceland is a gangster movie, although you will see a great Russell rendition of Elvis at the end of the reel, once the movie has ended. Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner are not competing as an Elvis role, but as gangsters personified. Lots of violence and language steep in the movie but, there is a story line. Cortney Cox co-stars with Russell and they are not exactly the parents you would write home about to mom. If you can deal with the violence and language, this is an erupting movie. Other co-stars are Christian Slater and David Arquette.
Opener: get the popcorn ready
Gangsters decide to rob a major 'take' for an International Elvis Week going on in Vegas. Their motive to get inside incognito? Dress like Elvis. Five gangsters enter the building. Russell and Costner do not clash in the movie as they separate early into the video and do their things. But, you will get to see them rub each other the wrong way through intermittent character development and the final 15 minutes of fame is solely theirs in a great action sequence. They clash big time.
The Money Has Left the Building:
Not long into the film the original five 'elvis' stars start to thin out. There has been an attraction developed between the Cox and Russell characters and her son. As Russell plays the romantic and 'gentle' character, Costner plays one mean dude. I mean, really mean. I did have some problems with the parental role models that Cox and Russell present to the child star playing the son. But,I didn't write the script. LOL. If you enjoy gangster movies, you will deal.
Lights/Camera/Action:
Yes, there is plenty of action. Shootouts and car chases, and direct interaction combat between the characters. In this movie, you will despise Costner's character and root for Russell. {or you could be the opposite depending on your dark character mood, lol.} In one scene, Costner is stopped by a state trooper and doesn't exactly 'start singin' and shaking his leg. And the child character star isn't exactly the Disney Kid here. The direction is under Demian Lichenstein who has video music direction fame.
Recommendation
If you like romance or true life domestic movies, don't rent or buy. If you like action/adventure and don't mind violence and language..this is it. There is some comic routines mixed into the storyline between Russell and Cox and the Cox's character son. Enjoy.
