3 deewarein ... 4 walls. Review on 3 Deewarein

After this movie Kukunoor has sucessfully proved that he is capable of delivering mainstream, class-A movies. Right from the first scene to the climax he is in absolute control. Excellent story (quite original) and great screenplay. Its great how he closes the '3 walls' (3 Deewarein) with a fourth one in the end, thus bringing the movie to a satisfying climax.

The movie is set in a prison, and revolves around the lives of three convicts, who have been sentenced the death penalty. They not only share the same prison cell but also their lives with each other. From a poetic, uninterested convict (Jackie Shroff) to an honest, middle-class prisoner (Kukunoor) to a chalu, tapori, fraud (Naseruddin Shah), all the three depict three distinct personalities, and thus the three different walls. The fourth character, a journalist who wants to make a documentary (Juhi Chawla).

The harsh of prison life are depicted quite realistically. As the story unfolds, you laugh, cry and feel with each character. Along with the main characters other characters add additional colors to the movie like: the good-hearted jailor who wants to reform the prisoners, Juhi Chawla's abusive husband and the prisoner who does not want to leave the prison.

The ending reminded me of usual suspects... took me by surprise and left me feeling satisfied.

A worth watch!! Can't wait for the next one from the Kukonoor camp!!
