Story:

George Orwell what a fine author!!!!! He is one of my favorites. The explanation being the issues, incidents or any events that he has touched upon in his novels desires to be definitely pondered upon.

The reason I chose this theme for my review because (a) of the above mentioned reason and (b) I really want the readers this time to please read, rate and also comment on this review as this is the first time I’m attempting to write something apart from the entertainment section which I generally pick every time. Whether good or bad please do send in your precious comments as only then I would be able to rectify my concerned flaws. I’m just 17 and I have seen what kind of mind-blowing reviews you all publish in MS. Each and every comment makes me feel that yes even I can write and believe me posting a review in the midst of all you distinguished writers seems to be a thorny task…

George Orwell was born in 1903 and for his first novel he used his experience with poverty as aspiration and wrote Down and Out in Paris and London (1933). From then he started the magic of his pen and paper and the rest became history. However he died of tuberculosis in London on Jan 21 1950

The reason I chose 1984 as it depicts a society whose purpose is solely that of power and highlights the tyranny much above freedom.

Winston smith a low ranking member of the ruling party is subjected to the above tyranny in each and every phase of his life. The world is divided to Oceania, Eurasia and East Asia. A totalitarian society led by the most important figure though never appears in the novel BIG BROTHER. Everywhere Winston goes he sees the face of the party’s seemingly omniscient leader big brother. Even thinking rebellious thoughts was illegal.

The frustration that Winston suffers by the oppression and rigid control of the body leaves him bereft of free thought, sex and any expression of individuality…

But soon he falls in love with his co-worker Julia something, which is a crime. Though Winston is aware of their fate but still the affair progresses so does his hatred for the party. Soon he receives an invitation from a member of the brotherhood party named O’rien who claims that he works against the outer party.

But all their dreams are shattered when they discover O’rein is a spy working for big brother. Winston torn away from his love, sent to the ministry of love a centre for the criminals accused is tortured by O’rein for months and struggles hard.

Finally he’s sent to the dreaded room 1 0 1 - the ultimate destination of a criminal opposing the party. Ultimately he gave up Julia, which O’rein was craving for and tortured him until his beliefs coincided with those of the party.

He betrayed his love for his own survival and completely bows his head to the party and learned

“TO LOVE THE BIG BROTHER”

The life and message of 1984 is very realistic highlighting how the dove cries in pain when government becomes powerful.

A startlingly original and haunting novel creating an imaginary world that is completely convincing from the first sentence to the last four words.
