Story:

Find out the true meaning of Independence or rather FREEDOM for there are few better ways to do it than by reading 1984 by George Orwell. A novel truly magnificently and innocently brutal in which humans live only physically and have lost all consciousness and would be safe to say have turned into machines which are expressionless, heartless, emotionless and above all lifeless.....

George Orwell constructs a fictitious world (Oceania by the name) which is ruled by a PARTY whose head is the Big Brother. A TELESCREEN( which cannot be switched off ) has been installed in all the houses and public places which not only transmits but also receive signals and can detect even the slightest of nervous reactions which are deviations from the normal or machine like existence of humans living. There is the Thought Police which is supposed to execute all those who go against the Party not only when they commit any crime but if there is any indication that they would do so in the future if the Telescreen detects any nervous activity or abnormality which is humane. There is a new language Newspeak which had very few words which was being imposed on the people which had an extremely limited vocabulary so that people would not even know the words with which to express their protest. The people are scrutinized relentlessly so that there could be no rebellion. The rules are as barbaric as one could imagine and sometimes one can find them impossible for humans to obey.

In this world there is our protagonist Winston Smith who tends to break away from all this and falls in love with a girl named Julia. They both knew that it would surely bring about their end sooner rather than later since it was impossible to keep evading the Thought Police who have a network of spies at their behest and yet they could not help but fall in love. What follows is a heart wrenching tale of suppression of one of the most important ingredients of life - LOVE and you tend to feel horrified, hysterical and even disgusted at the easiness with which the writer does it.

One tends to believe that this novel is a pure piece of fiction and not even remotely associated with reality but in this era of power hungry political parties which are capable of doing anything for power and camera phones which have taken away the privacy of individuals no end , our cities are already on the fringes of becoming like Oceania....

There are three slogans of the ruling PARTY mentioned in the novel : 1.War is Peace

2.Freedom is Slavery

3.Ignorance is Strength

After reading the novel I wish to add a fourth one : Fiction is Truth

I would appreciate any comments or ratings and thank you for reading my review.
