I have been an ARR fan for almost 15 years now..ever since his first movie Roja through all his compositions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and English I have heard them all. 1947 would stand out as his best Hindi album..ever. The unknown fact about this album is that its mostly composed, arranged and played by the Genius himself, on his Synthesiser..!!

The pick of the lot is "Dheemi dheemi, Bheeni bheeni"..this song is a composer's dream. I would definitely want to credit the sound engineer too for this gem. It starts with chirping of birds..followed by a lullaby like loop merging into Hariharan's smooth vocals...This is one helluva effort...and as usual it got lost and forgotten...

I spend most of time experimenting with sounds in my studio and believe me this composition is a breeze to play..its totally electronic music..I believe its a Korg Karma (synth). It is a one man composition the way.

The second best is "Raat ki dal-dal hain bhaari re".Its Sukhwinder singhs best song ever; 'Chaiyaa chaiya' does not even come close. He has put in soul to Javed Akhtar's provocative https://lyrics.." Dhadkan ki chale kaisee Gaadi re.."that says a lot..isnt it..??

"Yeh jo Zindagi hai" has two versions. One has Sujata Trivedi ( not to be confused with my favourite Sujata Mohan)and Srinivas. Srinivas, who joins Sukhvinder in the second version, sounds a lot like Yesudas in his early years. He is also a promising singer. I have heard some of his compositions in Tamil and I simply loved them. His big hit, up-north was "kaisi hain yeh rut" from 'Dil chahta hain'.

Sujata and Anuradha sriram (remember 'Ishq Bina", from Taal??) joins each other for "Ishwar Allah". Thought provoking lyrics, for a brief moment I travelled through time to " hum Dono" (legendary but forgotton) Jaidev's masterpiece, "Allah Tero Naam" ..same feeling, spiritual awakening..and for me, Nirvana of the soul..!!!!

Finally the popular number " Banno rani". Its a peppy number, justifying the scene in the movie. The "Theme Music" is a simple piano interlude...An honest effort but passe'. All in all a great album, one which has found its deserved place in my collection. Im sure people after reading this review would listen to it, and hear it the way I do.

If u want to hear another one man composition..totally arranged, composed and played on synthesier..listen to "thenmaruku' from the move 'Karuthamma"(1994) and u will know what a genius this guy is...!!!! Also for a memorable (not passe')theme music composed on piano, listen to the one from the movie 'Jeans'..It goes something like " you are in my heart, sweet memories keep haunting me"...and so on...An apt interlude, for a looser like me....!!!
