I finally got a chance to see the movie after it's dvd release which many reviewers have called the best horror movie of the year and well I wasn't disappointed.
cast and crew
starring:john cusack, samuel l jackson
director:mikael hafstrom
the plot
Mike enslin(john cusack) is a successfull author of of horror genre and after having done a lot of research in haunted hotel rooms and graveyards for his novels he has come to the conclusion that there aren't any ghosts or supernatural occurrences.
While he is seraching for ideas to write a new book he receives an anonymous postcard advising him to stay away from room no 1408 of a ceratin dolphin hotel in new york. However enslin decides to take up the challenge and checks in the room even after repeated attempts from the hotel manager olin(samuel l jackson) to keep enslin away, however finally hehas to give in to enslin and he warns him by saying that it's an evil fu**in room.
what follows in the room is what the movie is all about
where the movie scores*
well for starters, the concept of the movie is interesting and the movie keeps you hooked throughout. rather than overwhelming the viewer by blood and gore the movie relies on scaring the viewers and boy, it succeeds.
performances from cusack and samuel l jackson are top notch, infact cusack does a one man show throughout the movie and does not dissapoint.
*where the movie could have been better
*i strongly feel that the ending and the climax leading to it could have been more impact.
extras
the movie has alternate endings so people watching the movie on dvd, do read the pages on 1408 on Wikipedia after watching the movie to know the alternate ending.*
1408** is based on the Stephen king story of the same name
final verdict*
if you enjoy watching horror and supernatural movies 1408 is strongly recommended.
