February 14 is a Tamil Movie starring Bharat and Renuka Menon who is making her debut in this movie. The story of the movie ....if it can be called so is as follows:

Bharat is a from a village called Thamarai Kulam near Madurai and he is waiting to get admission into any college to pursue his degree. The movie starts with the hero participating in a cycle race and winning it. The cycle race in itself is a big joke as everybody keeps fighting our hero in full view of the race judges and still nobody seems to mind :)..well the heros father(Shalini's dad in Alaipayuthey) is always worrying about his son as every other guy in the village has an admission secured but not his son. The son (our hero) finally gets admission into a college in Bangalore and goes off. Here he meets a Girl Renuka with whom he falls in love at the very first sight (what else did u expect?). She is born and brought up in the US and comes to Bangalore only to study. As usual they fight when they meet for the first time and after the initial hiccups become friends. Our hero secretly loves her and pretends to like everything she likes for eg: basket ball, Phil Collins, Pizzas and what not. Then comes the turning point of the story. Renuka gives a presentation abt the poverty in India (I forgot to tell u, they are Vis Com students), which irritates all the staff and students alike and she decides to return to the US as she thinks that India is not good enough for her. Now our hero comes up with a splendid idea. He creates a fictitious Mr X who writes letters to Renuka telling her how good the presentation was etc etc and generally feeds up her ego...and so happily she decides to live in India itself(what an honour!!phew). Then one fine day she decides that she loves Mr X. Will her love be accepted. What happens to our heros love? for the rest, watch the movie. If ypu can that is...:)

I could not understand the reason as to why the college was located in Bangalore. I mean, everybody there speaks only Tamil Tamil and more Tamil. Even the Drunkards speak only they mean to say that everyone who knows Tamil there is a drunkard? we never know. There is this guy in the movie who hates love. What he does is, he waits for 2 people to fall in love and then goes and proposes to the girl. What a character!!! :).He is the villain in this movie...but looks more like a comedian. and there is this special scene which I should mention. Our hero is all pumped up and singing the farewell song, when suddenly Voila the lights go off....our hero does not know what to do and suddenly Renuka picks up her mobile and gives light through the display of her fone. On Cue, everybody in the auditorium does the same and the audi is bathed in light....:)) If I had room in front of me, I would have been rolling with laughter.

Coming to performances, I dont know what made Bharat take up this role. This guy's acting was very good in Kaadhal even though I did not like the movie. He is a good actor but this film had nothing at all for him. The heroine Renuka is strictly ok....her US accent in the beginning of the movie was intolerable(Untolerable??). Bharats entire family was given only a Special appearnce and they were ok.When I heard that the film had Vadivelu, Santhanam I was of the opinion that the comedy would be very good...but sadly it was below Par....Them comedy sequence which involved Vadivelu with the guy who was Suryas right hand in Mayavi was really irritating. Pyramid Natarajan was as usual. The only good performance in the movie came from a 3D character which acted as Bharats heart or conscience or whatever. The dubbing to the character was given by the boy who acted as the mechanic in Kaadal. This was the only character in the movie which was ok as it brings some genuine smiles with its humour.

The music is scored by Bharadwaj. It really is an ok album in which most of the songs fail to impress.Only Jana Gana Mana is a hummable song. All the songs though are wrongly placed and really testyour patience in the cinema hall. Camera work by Rathnavelu is good, as usual.Other than that the story is non existant, the screen play is irritating with all unwanted songs creeping in. also the hero and heroine are supposedly in the first year for almost the entire movie and suddenly towards the last 10 mins they are into their final years and thinking of farewell and how they may never see each other. And why was the movie named Feb 14?Is it because there is love in the air throughout the movie?? nobody knows....

All in all this is not a movie for which you book tickets in advance (like I did) and go through 2 hours of torture. If you have booked tickets, please present them to someone!!.This movie is not worth watching in a VCD itself, leave alone in the theatre. If you are a group of people and you wouldnt mind the occasional entertainment the movie would provide like mentioned above, then this movie is for you
