127 hours is the movie about Aaron(james franco) a mountain climber and a canyoneer(somebody who explores canyons), and what happens to him on on of his trips a canyon in Utah

Aaron starts of to his usual trip to a canyon in Utah on a friday and starts his roaming around and exploration of the canyon on the Saturday morning, in course of time he comes across two other women who have come to explore the canyon too.

They, in fact, come in search of a stream that ran through the canyons. Aaron promises them a fun filled and thrilling way to actually reach the water stream in his own way and takes them to the promised place through one of the cracks in the canyon.

The three have loads of fun for some time, when they take videos of the great time they had, make pictures and part their ways, with the ladies inviting Aaron to a party some 20 miles away from the canyon.

Now solo, Aaron roams around the canyon and tries getting into one of the deep cracks in the canyon, sets his foot on a boulder and......goes down crashing into the crack, with the boulder crashing on his hand and rendering him immobile with the boulder firmly placed on his right hand.

Despite all his attempts to move the boulder, Aaron only meets with failure. He tries to chip the boulder away with his Chinese made pen knife(which had apparently come with a free light, that part is funny). he remains immobile for few days with failed attempts to release himself.

In course of all his attempts he keeps recollecting times from his childhood with his father, his mom and sister, his girl friend and what sort of person he had been.

Essentially he realizes that he has been a selfish, self centred person who is least bothered to even inform others where he is going. He realizes he has been bad to his girlfriend and so on.

The only company that he has throughout this situation is his camcorder on which he records his entire ordeal and all his feelings.

He gradually runs out of food and ultimately the water that he had rationed for the days. Once in a desperate attempt, he stabs his forearm to try and chop off his hand and release himself, only to realize that the knife is not strong enough to cut through the bones.

He reaches the peak of frustration on the 6th day and takes a drastic step, which is best left to watch than to describe here.

What makes this movie work is are three things, JAMES FRANCO has lived the character with even the subtlest to extreme emotions visible on a desperate man's face.

Rehman's background score, though really subtle has given strength by being just that. The cinematography is breathtaking while capturing the canyons and really effective with the angles when Aaron is struck in the canyons crack.

Ultimately when Aaron escapes from the canyon, one is to surely feel a sense of satisfaction and success within. Without knowing, a spirit of surviving against extremes is introduced in us.

To believe that this movie is based on the life of a real mountain climber only makes us salute the resolve and will of that person to Survive.

Well made Danny Boyle!
