When I bought this phone I really had no idea how different it was going to be. On a one day trip abroad and with nothing to do to kill time before my flight there I was at the shopping centre doing some window shopping. Just wanting to check the difference in prices I landed up at the cell shop and believe me it was probably the first time that the salesmanship got the better of my customer bargain skills. I ended up buying an O2 pure atom phone for almost 40 K. Too excited about my purchase only once I landed did I learn that Mumbai had a very niche market for these phones.
To begin with most of us are so used to the Nokia phones and this one is distinctly different for the basic reason that it is a PDA. It works with a window-based technology and is more like a mini computer. For instance you can save and create and edit word documents, excel sheets and also power point presentations. While on most phones you can nowadays access the web but only wap pages; this one allows you to surf HTML pages - just like you could on your computer.
The rest of the functions are quite similar to a regular phone, except it does not have a keypad. It has a stylus or a stick that you need to operate your phone. For the first day or so I couldn't even find that... and that was funny. It takes about a couple of days to kind of get used to the idea of taking out the stylus and using the phone but believe me once you do get used to it, it is a ltitle difficult to break out of the habit. The other day while using a Nokia phone I was actully trying to touch screen and only a split second later did I realize that it wasn't my O2.
The drawback in the phone is the fact that it doesn't come with a memory card. It however offers 100 MB of phone memory and one can always buy a memory card. As for other features, it has two games - bubble breaker and solitaire. It has a calculator, FM radio, Java, Media player, and Photo editor. It also allows you to connect the phone to the laptop for updating your data and you can also connect to the internet via your phone. I did have half a mind to sell off this phone and go for a traditional nokia, but I think I will stick to this one for a while. Not just because it is different but it is in fact quite handy.
