Reviewed Twenty Best English Songs

Grounds For Divorce - Elbow (I had a tough time opening the top 20. Fleet Foxes, Snow Patrol or Elbow. I think Elbow's Seldom Seen Kid surely is this year's best album. It was a surprise and what a pleasant one. Critics had almost written off Elbow over the past few years. I guess this album is f...Read more

This review made no sense, was badly written, probably written in a fit of rage, was prejudiced, was grammatically poor and seemed to be missing the point all the time.

I agree this is the best movie ever made in India, technically as well as artistically. I wonder why it went unnoticed when it was first released in 2000. Luckily it’s being re-released on 14th April 2006 in 9 languages. I saw the original english language version and I can’t wait for the DVD re...Read more

Your review was up-to-the-point and precise, with nice little titbits of information. It's not easy to write a short review on Goa (Goa's my native place). Can you write a review on Calcutta, if you have been there? Calcutta interests me, so does Madras.

At entry level, you can go for the Sony NS-730P (rs.13,500), Panasonic s-35 or s-70 (about 10k) or TEAC DV-3500 (below 10k). I'll be writing reviews on these soon. But once you have a full-featured dvd player like the ones mentioned above, you'll know the difference. Remember, DVD player qualit...y shouldn't be compared with VCD or it's ability to play anything else that DVDs. A DVD player should play DVDs the best way it can and others are just add-ons. Quality never comes cheap. Never judge a players quality by it's composite out video (the regular connection thru which we pass the video to the tv). Check the component output. If your tv set doesn't have a component in then it's time for u to trade ur tv with one with a component in. A component video out seperates the picture into three colours red, blue and green. And then only you'll get the real dvd picture which the movie studios intended you to view while making the dvd. A component out is essentail for progressive scan. Well there's a lot of things that goes in having a proper dvd player setup. I can just go on and on. Or maybe I should write a seperate detailed article on this. But one thing's for sure; just having a laser head that can read from a dvd disc isn't all what the dvd technology is all about. For someone who wants to watch just movies and not care for quality they can go for a vcd player (which is popular only in India), that is mpeg quality and not really meant to be viewed on anything but the pc. Let me know if you need any further details on any aspect.Read More

DVD players need have a 5.1 out, it just needs to give a good digital audio output. The decoding (5.1, 7.1, thx, dts, etc.) is supposed to be done by the audio receiver which is the heart of a home theatre.

Philips has been aggressively marketing this product in the lower segment players obviously since it's so lowly priced. They are aware of the fact that consumers in India aren't too aware of the dvd format. After vcd comes dvd. That's not the case. The Philips DVP 320 doesn't even qualify as a s...Read more

We can expect top level film-making from a director of Oliver Stone's calibre and it was all there. But the movie doesn't have a soul. It shouldn't make a difference that a person is Doors fan or not. A good movie is a good movie. Youngsters might like this movie for the recklessness of The Doors de...picted in this movie. Ppl who aren't much exposed to poetry in songs might take Morrison's songs as great poetry. Stone might have made the story fictional rather than putting it in a form of account of morrison's life. If one watches other Stone movies one might expect more from this movie.Read More

I just schemed through your not really having read it fully, yet commenting here since being an Enya fan myself. I first heard Enya in 1987 I guess when 'Orinoco Flow' fisrt hit the charts. Back then I knew Enya as the one from Clannad, as a year earlier Clannad had a hit with Bono in 'In a life...time'. I liked Clannad for their celtic songs and I'm a bit biased to anything Irish, be it bands, actors, movies, writers. I think the Irish have always done a great job. I bought 'Paint the sky with stars' just for the 2 new songs as I already had most of her albums (btw I never buy compilations and best ofs). But it has turned out to be the most listened to CD recently. I couldn't have compiled a best of Enya myself as I see all her albums have a different mood. Watermark, Memory of trees, a day without a rain all have a different timestamp. Enya really stands apart from the Clannad sisters.Read More

I used to be a total rock music fan (not necessarily a Doors fan) when this movie came out in 90-91 and I'd tripped on this movie. Looking back now I think it really wasn't all that worth. Oliver Stone had a great track record till then. His ''Platoon'' and ''Born on the 4th of July'' had won...Read more
