Hi Arun, As much as you love the ESTEEM, i am a MARUTI-BASHER...( I STILL feel cheated about the ESTEEM I owned in 1996-1997 ) which I had to sell even before I did 10000 kms, because of ENGINE KNOCKING ) So If I could convince atleast a few people against buying a MARUTI product, I would have... extracted SWEET REVENGE....Read More

HI Arun, You haven't highlighted power to weight ratio...because it is unfavourable !! ESTEEM VXi... 875 kgs for 85 BHP. THAT'S 97 BHP PER TON SWIFT VXi .... 1000 KG FOR 87 BHP THAT'S 87 BHP PER TON.. in other words, you are getting a heavier car with an ENGINE of lesser power ! If... a CAR is not all about the ENGINE AND DRIVING PLEASURE, then what is it ? The BOTTOMLINE : the ESTEEM ENGINE is good ONLY in the ESTEEM. PERIOD . I believe 1.6 L VVT would have been perfect ! JAPAN has designed something for the whole world, and our MARUTI eNgineers think they have more brilliance and have DOWNGRADED the ENGINE.. The HONDA CITY set the benchmark for 100 BHP PER TON in 1998 , and MARUTI is still playing CATCH-UP... Read More

'new engine costs more money' ...?? How do you know that ?? the new ( vastly improved HONDA CRV 2.4 ) costs the same as the old HONDA CRV 2.0 L engine.... Let us not jump to conclusions about new engines and the costs, and let us not pretend to understand what MARUTI's finances and cost...s are !! Has it occured to anyone that MARUTI could have put the old ESTEEM ENGINE so that they could still make a very very fat profit, with minimum effort !! Read More

The whole point is whether the whole world deserves the latest engine technology ( which means more power, better mileage, lesser vibration/noise NVH, ) better everthing, more fun to drive.....and India gets a 10 year old ESTEEM ENGINE..... MARUTI suppliers further cut corners to produce third-rate ...engine ( and other third-rate parts found in all MARUTI cars )....?? By the way, it is possible to get better mileage from a newer engine ( even if it is a higher capacity ).... the HONDA CRV 2.4 L engine provides better power, mileage ( better everything !!) than the 2.0 L engine it replaces....thanks to VVTi and other technologies....! LONG LIVE HONDA !! If price were the only criteria, then why don't we get the ZEN engine in the SWIFT, at a price of Rs 3 lacs....to hell with torque, pulling power etc....( according to MARUTI's own logic ).. Arent there customers out there who could buy the SWIFT at a higher price for getting the latest engine ( imported right from japan or wherever ) for a higher price ? MARUTI is branding Indians as only cost-mileage-conscious COMMUTERS !! DOWN WITH MARUTI !!Read More

Congrats on getting this great bike.... Hope the initial niggling problems go away after some service....You are lucky KINETIC is right there in PUNE to support you. Talk to Ajinkya Firodia, GM MARKETING ( ajinkya@kineticindia.com,) or V.P. (vismaya@kineticindia.com ) I got my COMET on Nov 11th 2...004 ( incidentally making me the first COMET owner in India ).... The local dealer does not have any spares, but kinetic support has been good. Spares, if ordered are delivered within 2 weeks. My petrol tank is completely rusted !! I sent the bike to the dealer and he has promised to replace it within a week or 10 days... I have driven 2500 kms in 8 months now...... just one ride in a couple of weeks......No problems with the bike, in general... you have to oil the chain regularly because it is open... You are right, until the BIG Japanese bikes arrive, this would be a great bike to ride... Fit and finish of this Korean bike is a couple of notches below Japanese Bikes..... Enjoy your rides, but keep praying for the jap bikes..... As for your choice of HONDA models, a simple CB400 super four, hyper v-tec, four cylinder inline, producing around 50-53 BHP, would be more than enough for our roads..... Read More

i HOPE BAJAJ / HONDA/YAMAHA come up with some 250 cc or more ( twin/four cylinder - not the same goddamn single bore-piston ) and then we can talk about performance bikes !! Talking about a 250 cc or a 500 cc makes sense.... It is tiring to read about the same old stuff about bikes YAMAHA 135, P...ULSAR 150/180 KARIZMA... these are all economy-oriented performance bikes ! Who cares about which bike beats which bike, better pickup and top whack !!..that too with meagre 180/223 .... Do you have fun riding your bike ... that's should be the whole point ...forget about what someone else is riding.....Read More

Good to know that you play... the guitar..... the greatness of these guitarists is TRULY appreciated when you try to play their compositions !! there are no two ways about this..... these things can't be discussed at a superficial level on a forum like MOUTHSHUT !!!Read More

this review HAS BEEN lifted FROM A CAR/BIKE MAGAZINE...... what 's the BIG IDEA. HP00968...???? AND PEOPLE PRAISING HIM FOR A LIFTED REVIEW ???? Everyone here is getting carried away with wishful thinking..... I own a CR-V 2.4 L and and here are some facts to ponder over......... The CR-V ...is not setting the sales charts on fire... it is not a success....HONDA is content with selling as many as it can ( less than 100 a month ).. It is not looking for volumes like other SUVs. It is an exclusive vehicle.... very few buyers, so it doesn't seem like a common car like the COROLLAS, SKODAS , ACCORDS.... It carries only 5, drinks petrol..gives only 6 to 7 KMS/LITRE... that makes it even more exclusive.....THANK GOD FOR THAT..... It is not a people ( junta ) carrier, or a 7 SEATER like other SUVs....., so you can't fit your grandparents, aunts, uncles and children in it.... It doesn't drink DIRTY diesel, AND DOES NOT SPEW OUT BLACK SMOKE....... so it is a cut above the INNOVAS, ENDEAVOURS, TUCSONS..... IT DOESN'T SHUDDER when you start it, like the SCORPIO DIESEL AND OTHER DIESEL SUVs.... NVH ( noise, vibration harshness ) is NEAR ZERO.... you can't hear the engine from outside or inside........ It is not like DIESEL SUVs ( SUMO/QUALIS/FORD/TUCSON) which feel like a LORRY is driving past.... It has a waiting list, not because there are too many buyers... because it is a CBU ( COMPLETELY BUILT UNIT -- 100 % IMPORT )....and has to be imported against orders from JAPAN.....takes 3 MONTHS for DELIVERY.... Since this is a CBU, you get 100 % JAPANESE QUALITY.....NOT MADE IN INDIA QUALITY.... The engine is good for 4 LACS KMS.,..... that will last a lifetime....! Handles like a CAR, and the automatic makes driving a breeze......( to hell with mileage ...) with HONDA SUPPORT , SPARES AND SERVICE, it is MOTORING NIRVANA !!! OVERALL, the MOST BRILLIANT HONDA YET........ Read More

COMET does 0-100 in 10.44 seconds...... PULSAR/KARIZMA/AQUILA take 14 seconds.......here's the review www.overdrive.co.in/Art_dtls.asp?page=6&tblname=tests&code=123 'ON A BRAND NEW RX ' , maybe two up should be around 10 seconds....( also allow for human error in noting thetime, speedo err...or ) .that's what I remember... I am talking about 1986 , not the 20 year old RX 100 you have on the road TODAY .. these are worn out machines.... hardly any life left in them.. most of the YAMAHA RX100s I see on the road, are run-down machines..... not brand new,..'I recollect the Advt. for RX100 in 1980s would be like 0-100 in 9 seconds or 10 seconds ' the RX100 is dead and gone, only living in our memories.... 0-100 figures of today's RX100 are useless... like comparing a YEZDI pick up with PULSAR OR KARIZMA.... When you say 0-100 in 17 seconds ???...C'MON yaar, a SCORPIO weighing 2 TONS ( 20 times more than RX 100 ) can do it in 17 seconds...... I don't know about present day bikes... but I can tell you even a regular ( HONDA CITY equivalent ) car can do 0-100 in 12 seconds...... I still maintain that when I ride the COMET now, it doesn't give me the same kick I used to get out of the RX100.....Read More

hey, dont talk about scorpions, led zeppelin, deep purple...they are not guitarists !!! do you know who the lead guitarists of these gourps are ...... talk about the lead guitarists ( or rhythm guitarist or bass guitarists ) ... deep purple changed their line up several times,, and lead guitarists ...too..... dont confuse groups with guitarists..... What's grungish voice...? Kobain would be turning in his grave !! grunge is not 'voice' but a style of music with 'dirty guitar sounds, strong riffs', ... it is a style of guitar/music.......Read More

ROCK music / greatest guitarists ???.... some of these guitarists would turn in their grave if you dont mention their names.....there are lots of 'greatest guitarists' and not just 5 ..... you are talking about whole genres of music that would take a lifetime to listen to and appreciate fully... an...d you just started off there are guitar gods from the 50s to the present.... so please don't say 'now and forever'.... it is just 3 years now that you are into rock music... maybe as you spend more time listening to rock music, you may eventually get to hear other greats...... a suggestion :;.. learn to play the electric guitar for a while ( a few years or so ) and then your prespective about 'best guitarists ' will change..... only when you play an instrument, can you appreciate it fully.... and understand the nuances of style, technique, speed, phrasing, harmony, keys, modes, playing styles, genres ( you need a life time for that ) etc..... spend a few years listening and you may get the hang of it....Read More

I can imagine your frustration....there are two issues here... CREDIT CARD companies have a clause which always states that they are not responsible for the quality of service or even availability of the service mentioned in the offer.... this means you have to fight it out with the shop/establishme...nt directly....This applies to practically every promotional scheme that these card companies offer.... the other major issue is why credit card companies promote such schemes and tie-up with inefficient establishments, when it is likely to reduce their iamge and credibility... that's the average operational efficiency of every company in India.... so we have no option but to fight it out with them.....Read More

Hi pulsarian, another thing about your review that makes a lot of sense now.......I have the COMET, which I ride now, but I feel it DOES NOT pack the same PUNCH that my RX100 had....it is hard to compare an impression of 1986 with today's impression...... but i have a feeling that RX 100 of 1986 ( a...s new , not the 20-year old bikes on the road today ) would beat the hell out of the COMET today...... four-stroke being what it is , it may need more than double the horsepower/torque to equal a 2-stroke.....in the case of the cometi t is 30 BHP/170 kg weight while the RX was 11BHP/100 kg weight.... In 1986, we tried to clock 0-100 kmph....My cousin would sit behind me on the RX100 with a stop watch and I would ride the bike and shout when i touched 100 kmph... would clock the time, and we consistently did 9 seconds.. nobody knew aboout speedo errors those days !.....my bike was the from the 1986 lot .... with the comet, single rider, I dont think it is 9.0 seconds..... Orcould it be that I can't ride the bike as hard as I did when i was younger.... I wish an 18-year old kid could offer to try my bike and come up with some 0-100 figures...Read More

I can imagine your plight.... I had an ESTEEM IN 1998 that had an accident in the front section..... the quality of work, the haphazard workmanship, it was a bloody nightmare.... when it was being re-assembled, the workers had to literally hunt for the parts, ( which were thrown all over the worksho...p )... when i got the car, back, the A/C wasnt effective, engine was making a noise, car wobbling,,,,, so I sold the car right there ( before I took delivery from the workshop ) .... and I swore that I would never touch a MARUTI product again.... I switched to HONDA.... now I will remain a faithful HONDA customer... HONDA CITY, HONDA CR-V.....HONDA rules........Read More
