of the Christian era. The Tholkappiyam, in fact, was written at this time. So even if Tamil is not the original parent language, it is the oldest of all surviving Dravidian languages. Let Kannadigas accept that as a reality and learn to live with it. Well I think that Kannada too should be made a... classical language because it meets the one important condition : it is extinct. No one outside India has even heard of it. And people in Karnataka dont use it either. Stephen Read More

9) Pay scale - A recent article in Economic times ranks Chennai behind Bombay and Delhi for highest pay scales. Bangalore comes after Calcutta and is slightly ahead of Hyderabad. Dunno where ya came up with the facts that Bangalore is ahead of Chennai when it comes to the pay scale. 10) Rock mus...ic - Agreed that more western bands come and perform in Bangalore and that thwey dont perform much (rather dont perform at all) in Chennai. But Chennai hosts several Indian hard rock bands like Moksha and Slazenger. Name one Bangalore band that has been doing the rounds in media lately. Cant remember any. 11) Talent pool and education - Tamilnadu or rather Chennai hands down. With some of the best engineering colleges in the country there is no dearth for talent in Tamilnadu unlike Karnataka. 12) Water - Bangalore without a doubt 13) Roads - Chennai has one of the best road networks in India. Bangalore doesnt even come close 14) About Bangalore being open to all languages how then can u explain the anti Tamil riots some years back? How then can u explain the riots against the screening of non Kannada movies? Open my a*ss. 15) Literature - If ya say that Kannada is way better than Tamil then u must be making a real a*ss outta urselF. Tamil is the second oldest language in India. People cherished Kannada and its literature, but never referred to it as ‘classical’ whereas they always spoke of Sangam literature as classical Tamil. What makes Tamil a classical language is that its literature is demonstrably older than that of any other Indian language except Sanskrit (and some Prakrits and Pali), that it has an independent (of Sanskrit) tradition and that it has an extraordinarily rich body of very early literature. I think it’s plain jealousy that’s making Kannadigas link the request for making Kannada a classical language to the status of Tamil. It is well-known and proven that Tamil’s Sangam era coincided with the start (contRead More

Man...if brains were TNT, u wudnt have enuff to blow ur hat off. Even a child would analyse things better. 1) Climate - Bangalore wins and no questions raised. 2) Language - Language serves as a country's identity. Unfortunately Bangalore has no such identity. And u think a place where people ...can speak more than one language is more cosmopolitan. I dont think people in NY can speak anything other than English. So does that make Bangalore more cosmopolitan thant New York. Jerk, use ur brains to do the thinking. People in Chennai can speak Tamil and English. If ya dont know Tamil then learn English to converse with us. We dont have to learn Hindi or Kannada to accomodate u guys. 3) Concerts - Chennai wins hands down here because Chennai is the cradle of musical revolution in India with most of the South Indian Carnatic musicians being Tamilians. And when it comes to dance again Bharatanatyam is more popular all over the world. Kerala has Kathakalli and Andhra has Kuchipudi. I dont remember people having associated anything with Karnataka. Pardon my ignorance. Pun intended. And about being western, well maybe Chennai is not as westernised as Bombay is, but it certainly is as good as Bangalore if not better. And let me add that I dont take pride in the fact that Chennai is more westernised. 4) Temples - Well it is again Chennai which wins hands down. The number of temples in and around Chennai has anyone spellbound unlike in Bangalore where u have to go to the outskirts. 5)Roads- Chennai again 6) People- Chennai again. Doesnt house riot mongers 7) Entertainment Industry - LOL...No comparison. Chennai film industry is the second most popular in India after Bollywood. No one has even heard of good Kannada movies. 8) Textile and Manufacturing industry - Chennai miles ahead of Bangalore says outlookindia. http://outlookindia.com/full.asp/?sid=1&fodname=200407&fnname=Chennai&fnname1=versus&fnname2=Bangalore/%28f%29. Thanks for your comments amithbn. That was a welcome refresh from the comments I was hoping to recieve. I just read Amrita's review and I also just checked the comments section in her review. There I searched for the words 'Chennai' and hey presto I find 5 occurences and all in negative light. Amrit...a ***** aint from Chennai. Nor is the review about Chennai. Then why the hell should people drag Chennai. That is why I decided to go ahead with this review. I wouldnt have bothered otherwise. As far as your comments are concerned thanks for not being opinionated. I agree that Chennai is more traditional than Bangalore. No where in India would you find a city which boasts of being cosmopolitan and at the same time sticks to its traditions. Being cosmopolitan is not about being Western. We take pride in a rare blend of tradition with rational outlook (not western outlook) and we dont seem to be harping on and on about it unlike your fellow Bangaloreans. And since when is being traditional wrong in India? Isint that what our forefathers have taughts us? Why do we always take pride in everything westernised. Have u people ever wondered about it before rambling on and on about Bangalore being a NY. Stephen PS : - A lot of westerners still look at India with great wonder and awe, perhaps trying to comprehend how a country can be so diverse (traditional and westernised) at the same time and Chennai is the best example for it.Read More

Naana aarambikkale. They asked for it. I was just googling Bangalore and came across some MouthShut reviews. And all of the reviewers had something negative to say about Chennai. What the hell? Why do they have to degrade Chennai to make Bangalore look better? Pissed me off to no ends. Adhaan konjam... veluthu udalaam nu ninaichen. Innum nariye ezhuthirukkanum ..... Stephen.Read More

I would have never written this review if I hadnt come across Chennai bashing in almost every Bangalorean's review. What do u guys have against us Chennaiites? Is it a feeling of inferiority complex? Anyway this review is a answer to all the questions that u raised. Well when it comes to the ...Read more
