Although the article posted a very rosy picture, maybe good enough for a novice who is just going mobile, people who have been mobile long enough and really expect some 'decent' service, will realise that all such features Global caller id, email, sms, roaming, banking (remember the data sent and r...ecieved is not encrypted !) are now 'standard' for any cell provider. Infact BPL also provides GPRS, but its a different issue that the speed the end user gets is often pathetic (just 4 kbps normally).
Although I have commented on airtel in my own review earlier, what i missed out on was commenting on their helpdesk. Their helpdesk in bombay is anything but accessible. Even at midnight I had problems getting thru to their helpdesk personnel while all the while i was just reminded how important my call was to them. Although my major grouse was with the sms service and they always had the standard reply 'it will be rectified by this weekend' and its been more than a month and the situation is the same.
I really dunno about the weak
signal problems in enclosed spaces and if they continue to stick to 1800 GSM I guess this is something all Airtel users will have to live with for their rest of their lives.
The whole purpose of being mobile is being accessible always and if this is something which is not provided properly the whole thing becomes meaningless. Maybe we can hope Airtel will get over their teething problems in bombay, I for once have made up my mind and that is an Orange a day will keep me in better touch with my friends.Read More
