Fails to bring you home 15 Park Avenue
I'm with you on this one, bro. Film-makers like Aparna Sen appear to believe that it's enough for a film to ride on good intentions alone. It is also a remarkably successful ploy to insulate it from any criticism, as evidenced by all the gushing reviews. I'm glad someone else too didn't get taken i...n by the hokey sincerity of the movie. Keep writing.Read More

The Bardy Bunch Omkara
Thanks a lot for your comments. I understand the movie is an adaptation and my gripe isn't really about that. I think the motivation presented for the actions of some of the characters is inadequate. The play has much more by way of character development through powerful prose, which Bharadwaj seem...s to have glossed over, while focussing only on the bare bones of the plot. This is not a shortcoming of the general process of adaptation. Kurosawa transplanted Macbeth to feudal Japan in 'Throne of blood', without selling any of the major characters short. Adapting the story to a different cultural setting does not necessarily have to be an impediment to character development. On a side note - I am familiar with small town UP, having lived in Jhansi for a while and agree that Bharadwaj's representation of the people and the rural milieu is dead on.Read More

In both movies, the supporting character acts circles around the protagonist, who lumbers along weary and c...Read more

From the very first shot of the eponymous character racing a stallion with the camera lingering lustfully on his sweat drenched biceps and pecs, it's plainly obvious that this movie is a phantasmagoric Hrithikapalooza. Everything else is dressing, which is good because Naseeruddin Shah is famish...Read more
