Winds of change...

By: mbfarookh | Posted Feb 01, 2008 | General | 470 Views

As soon as I read Smita’s m2m informing me about the new features incorporated in MS interface I left everything in a state of suspension and logged on to the MS Homepage.

I was pleasantly surprised, undeniably inquisitive, a trifle irritated, a little restive, just as testy, quite shocked, equally mad, predictably bored, infinitely patient, and ultimately happy about the ‘new look’ MS interface.  During one hour of exploration, I had experienced the entire ‘Nav Rasas’ of human emotions.  That’s what change does to us and that is why a most of us have developed unheeding inertia towards change.

However, paradoxically, we keep mouthing “Change is the law of life.”   Some witty but helpless soul even added “… and wife is that law.” The dig, though unnecessary, does drive home the point.  Many opinionated people say “a change for the better is always good” which in my opinion is fooling around with words, a job better left to our honourable politicians.

The dynamics of change are such that they bring the good, the not so good, and the utterly bad with them.  But change is also a sign of growing, and evolving.  It is just left to us as to how we deal with it and it is in this degree of adjustment that one feels that the change is good, bad, or intolerable.

The above ranting begs a question – “Why are we so bothered about a change in MS interface?” Well, on the face of it our reactions may look quite silly, but there is one fact that needs to be taken cognizance of, and that is MS is like a lifeline to most of us.  Any tremor or upheaval in MS will affect us closely in one way or the other.  Therefore, any little change in the ‘ecology’ of MS is bound to be reviewed, discussed, and argued upon.

The new interface does take time to load even on PCs connected with broadband.  A little delay was expected as a lot of thumbnails apart from other new features had to be loaded.  I was having serious trouble in accessing the MS main page for the last two days, but I am not sure whether the glitches are entirely related to the new interface or to the break in the undersea network cable.  We have to wait and see.
