Why I would boycott SaiRam Builder’s #VibrantCommunity Event

I recently visited a gated community project in Hyderabad at their marketing office in Jubilee hills. A big banner, right at their reception, caught my immediate attention. It is a collage of photos of community events organized at one of the gated projects of this builder.

Any other visitor would have been impressed looking at those pictures. But I was not. Not because the pictures were not eye-catching, they definitely were! But because, now, I know the truth behind those photos.

Builders are using these community-event pictures for mere advertisement, of either their existing project or of a future project. It serves two purposes. It creates significant advertisement to the project, which is cheaper than the print/electronic advertisement and it creates a sense of appeasement within the residents. The gullible residents, unwary of the catch, turn up for these events and add to the amusement. A quick math will reveal you that the money they spend on one such event would hardly be in few thousands and even if they secure 1-2 bookings from one such event, the spend from the event is returned. It makes a perfect master stroke for the builders to retort to this trick.

Alas, what the builders do not realize is that these tricks are not far lasting. At the end, what matters is the builder’s credibility of building a quality residency. People who fall for these tricks come to know the truth sooner or later.

As a buyer of a flat in Sri SaiRam Towers, Hafeezpeth, I am very much aware of the daily chores of issues, we residents are being subjected to. There are incidents of theft and damage in parking lot, abusive behavior of management staff towards residents, unruly treatment to tenants, unplanned outage of lifts with many blocks only having one working lift, forceful disconnection of electricity on matters of dispute, pathetic and forced-upon facilities like car cleaning/supermarket run by kins of the builder. The residents of this society, very much like many other gated communities in and around Hi-Tech city, are migrant workers in software field. Their priority is to take care of their respective family followed by their office work. They hardly find any time to run from pillar to post to resolve the community issues. This is the case with almost all notorious projects across India and builders very much know this loop hole and are exploiting the system to their advantage.

Through this post, I want all the builders to understand that more than the event-based-gimmicks, what’s needed is your participation and cooperation towards harboring a congenial culture in the society where there is inclusiveness for tenants and owners, where there is no bias towards land owners, where there is an honest attempt from the builder to give to the residents their due, that was promised in form of a gated society. In simple words, if you cannot translate what you print in your glossy brochures into reality, you are just cheating the system and unfortunately, this system is hand-in-glove with you.

I have taken a resolve to boycott Sri SaiRam Tower’s Vibrant community event till I see a plan from builder to complete his pending deliverables before lurching into new projects. I would ensure that this article is circulated enough within the social media so that I can avoid some innocent people to get conned.

I request the readers of this article to respond with the dubious housing projects of their city/town so that fellow buyers can be made aware thereby enabling them to make an informed decision.
