Snapchat founder Evan Spielberg need to put on his thinking cap because WhatsApp new Status feature could put a huge break on Snapchat's growth rate?.
After the phenomenal success of Snapchats story clone on Instagram last year, parent company Facebook followed it up by rolling out the feature in Facebook and Facebook messenger.? Now, it is rolling out the same feature for on it's most famous and widely used child company WhatsApp too.
Unlike other apps where stories are shown at the top, WhatApp stories will be featured on a separate status tab. With the 8-Year-aged status feature getting a completely overhauled, it will be a welcoming and refreshing move for all users. Users will be able to add a photo or a video in the story tab and decorate their imagery with captions and drawings.
If you can't see the modified status tab on your device as yet, it because the update is being rolled out gradually on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. The feature is not available on my device too at the time of writing this blog.
As far as the numbers are concerned, WhatsApp boasts of a magnanimous 1.2 billion users and the status tab could be detrimental to Snapchat's already dented growth.
While reports of Snapchat's IPO of 20 billion are rife, it is now inevitable that it will be dethroned from its pedestal sooner or later.
