If a person wants to have a good feeling of a hill station then Shimla is the best place. It is located at a distance of 2.5 Km from Auckland Tunnel and is surrounded by deodar trees and a thick forest. It is in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and is situated at 2,130 m above sea level. The best season to visit this place is May-July and September-November. One can enjoy the snowfall during winter season that starts from December and may extend till March. Avoid visiting Shimla during rainy season that may span from March to July as most of the time one will be confined to his rooms. The places for tourist attractions are the Mall, Viceregal lodge, Himachal State Museum, Jakhoo Hill, Annandale, Glen, Summer Hill, Chadwick Falls, Prospect Hill, Sanjauli, Temples, Daranghati Sanctuary. Tourists generally love to participate in the activities like trekking, skiing, golfing, fishing etc. here. Other nearby places of tourist attractions are Chail, Kasauli, Kufri, Solan, Nahan, Narkanda, Renuka Lake, Sarahan, Sirmour, Mashobra & Craignano, Naldehra, Rampur, Sarol, Dharamshala. The Mall, which is the main shopping street of Shimla, has many restaurants, clubs, banks, bars, Post Offices and tourist offices. The Gaiety Theatre is also situated there. Jakhu Hill is about 2 km from Shimla, situated at a height of 8000 ft. and offers a beautiful view of the town and of the snow-covered Himalayas. Another attraction is a 108 feet statue of Lord Hanuman, at 8,500 feet. Jutogh is located just 8 km away from the city centre. This army cantonment is near Totu, an important suburb of Shimla city. Shimla State Museum, which was opened in 1974, has tried to protect hill-out and the cultural wealth of the state. There is a collection of miniature Pahari paintings, sculptures, bronzes wood-carvings and also costumes, textiles and jewellery of the region. Summer Hill is situated at a distance of 5 km from the Ridge which is a lovely township of Summer Hill, situated at a height of 6,500 ft on the Shimla-Kalka railway line. Tara Devi is 11 km from the Shimla bus-stand. It is a temple dedicated to the goddess of stars on top of the hill. Sankat Mochan, a very famous Lord Hanuman temple is also located here.
