US Cheats!!!!!

This is not a forwarded mail but the experience of one of my family member, who was part of rescue mission.

On 26th May'10 one commercial oil tanker was on a voyage from Come By Chance (Canada) to Savannah (USA). At about 09:45 PM, the third officer who was on duty, saw a faint light blinking on the horizon. Then he saw a hand flare followed by a rocket parachute (signals used for distress at sea).

He straight away informed about this to the Captain of the ship. The Captain immediately activated the emergency response procedure and turned the ship towards the faint light (which was about 5-6 nautical miles away). On coming closer to the light they saw a liferaft floating in water and one man inside that liferaft along with his dog. It was obvious the man was exhausted and was on in this condition for a long time. The captain instructed other officers and crew and they rescued him with the help of nets and rope ladders, risking a lot, as the sea was not smooth (due to rough seas boat could not be lowered).

They got him aboard, gave him first aid and did the best they could do for him. He was a French National, who was sailing alone in a sail boat with his dog and was caught in a storm due to which his boat had caught fire and exploded. He had abandoned that boat in a liferaft. He was in water for almost 24 hours, before these people spotted him.

As a standard procedure, they informed the coast guards of Savannah, as the ship was going to that port. They also reported to their company.

After he was safely handed over to the coast guard, a few days later, they realized the coast guard there took all the credit for their rescue. (provided below are the links for the same)

The captain and crew, never thought even once, for any fame or rewards for saving him. But at least, they expected people to be fed with the complete and correct news.

Seems like US is leaving no exception when it comes to cheat, and taking false credits.

Attached are the pics which show the rescue and picture of the French National with the Ship members.
