Tunnel at the end of light....

By: amchigelo | Posted Sep 23, 2008 | General | 296 Views | (Updated Sep 24, 2008 12:39 AM)

Is mankind seeking the tunnel which will take us into the dark, turning everything we have achieved into nothing?? Well, several of our brethren think so and have protested, demonstrated worldwide in response to the CERN experiement with Large Hadron Collider (LHC). So what is all the hoopla about?

To understand that we need to understand a bit about the LHC. Physicists at the CERN have built the LHC 100m below the French-Swiss border to study the smallest particle known to man - the Higgs boson - which according to theory is responsible for endowing other particles with mass. They will make two beams of protons or lead ions accelerate in opposite directions with high energy and make them collide head-on. So what do they expect out of this - to recreate the moments right after the Big Bang, to understand the deepest secrets of the atom leading to the larger secrets of the universe such as gravity, confirmation of 10 or 11 dimensions of the universe, other particles which are yet to be found believed to be generated at Big Bang such as dark matter or black holes. Some scientists believe that LHC collision will give rise to microscopic black holes for a brief fraction of time.

Now keep in perspective that there are many commoners including yours truly who read Angels and Demons and how the CERN lab created anti-matter using a collider which was used to threaten the vatican. Also keep in mind, one of the properties of the black holes - which is common knowledge - is that black holes are the universe's vaccum that suck or eat up everything within close proximity including light itself and grow increasing their appetite for more that will spell the end of the earth and possibly our universe!! Aaha...now we are getting somewhere...

The protesters for the CERN LHC can be divided into 3 types - common folks that believe that this CERN experiment will lead to doomsday with a black hole engulfing us all, the religious group that believe we are undermining God himself and a 3rd group of wackos like PETH (People for the Ethical Treatment of Hadrons) who are standing up for the rights of these sub-atomic particles. Protestors from PETH protested outside the CERN HQ with signs reading "Don't fark with the quark" and "Subatomic Pain is Still Pain."!!!!

So where will all this lead? It was kind of a disappointment for me when the LHC developed a snag which has now put this experiment behind schedule. Our protestors forget, that seeking knowledge is what has differentiated us from the rest of the species. Mankind started by exploring the very earth that we came to be on, all that is on this earth and below it, the oceans and its secrets, inside and inwards into ourselves leading to miraculous cures to previously terminal sickness, outward into space and beyond and maybe it is now time to look at the very particle that defines it all - so what if we are going the other way from light into darkness??? The dinosaurs did not seek knowledge of the world they were in - yet where are they today???
