No matter from which part of the country you are coming, anyhow you have to pass through Delhi if you are travelling to Haridwar and Rishikesh or anything beyond that like Joshimath or Govindghat. My new article about “Tracking to Valley of Flowers” is a guide to that entire traveler who is planning their vacation in near future to the beautiful “Valley of Flowers”.

Before anyone make their travel plan to Valley of Flower, they should keep in mind that this national park is open only in summer between June and October. For rest of the years during winters the whole area is covered by heavy snow making this area completely unreachable. So it is needless to say that summers are the best time to visit.

Also, before I continue my journey towards the Valley of Flowers, I would also like to share two important legends associated with this place. The first legend is associated with this place from the time of Ramayana. It is said that Valley of Flowers is the place from Hanumanji of Ramayana collected "Sanjeevani" herbs to save the life of Lakshmana, the younger brother of Ramaji during the war of Ramayana when he was injured by Indrajit..

Miss Margaret Legge is another recent name associated very closely with the Valley of Flowers. In 1939, Miss Margaret Legge, a botanist deputed by the botanical gardens of Edinburgh arrived at the valley of flowers for further studies, While she slipped off and was lost forever in the garden of the gods. Her sister later visited the valley of flowers and erected a memorial on the spot where she was buried by the locals. The thoughtful memorial is still there.

The short synopsis of complete trip from Delhi to Valley of Flowers is like this. One can starts by reaching Rishikesh from Delhi which is about 222 Kilometers / 138 Miles total. The next one is 11 hrs bus journeys travelling from Rishikesh to Joshimath. Then, 1 hour bus ride from Joshimath to Govindghat followed by 14 km trek from Govindghat to Ghangria, along the river Lakshmana Ganga. This is the most difficult, but also an enjoyable part of the trip. From the base camp Ghangria, the Valley of Flowers is a 3 km climb, where one has to go daily and come back the same day.
