To Vote or Not To Vote

The on going media campaign urging people to vote has indeed impressed a lot. I have not seen such a buildup, before any assembly election. I feel the media deserves kudos for being so intensely active in spreading the awareness for voting and establishing it as a right of each and every Indian.

The on going campaign has indeed made its mark which can be seen by the voting pattern in Maharashtra, how ever there are still few Doubting Thomases’ who question the entire process. Their point of view is “We still don’t know who to vote, because each and every politician is corrupt, so why vote and choose yet another corrupt politician?” I don’t disagree with this thought process, because some time back even I used to think like this. However, when I gave it a little more thought I developed a different point of view which I would like to share all, maybe it will help one more person to change his/her point of view.

We all have a choice in our lives, what we choose depends on our outlook. The choice of right and wrong is all relative, because what seems right today might prove to be wrong 5 or 10 years down the line, I am sure every one has experienced this. Then how do we make the right decision? I feel that our endeavor should be to make little changes as we go along, because little changes can be reversed easily, however it takes enormous amount of effort and energy to reverse big changes. If you ever observe a musician, you will see that too set the right tune small tweaks and twist are used to create a perfect symphony. If too much effort or power is used you would normally end up with a broken cord. The same principle applies in all other fields.

The key then is to make small changes continuously and to reassess them continuously to get the favorable result. So during this election choose a lesser evil and then continuously put pressure on him/her to make the right decisions. The best example that comes into my mind is the reaction of public post 26/11, which forced a well established CM to resign and then the government’s firm stand to deal with the perpetrators of the attacks. I am sure by choosing the lesser evil we will give a clear signal that we want change and this will force the bigger evil to change ways. So every time we keep on choosing a lesser evil we will ensure that 15-20 years down the line we have a much cleaner system and a stronger nation. I ask you, what are 15-20 years when it comes to life of a nation? Moreover it always takes decade to build a strong nation, after all “Rome was not built in a day”.

So get up, choose and vote for the betterment of your and nation’s future. Vande Maatram!!
