Situational Interview Questions today are extremely common and it is to be expected by candidates who apply for any Managerial positions. Situational interview questions allows the interviewer to gauge how the candidate can think on his feet or how had the candidate responded to a similar situation in the past. Situational interview questions can look very harmless. Some of them may even look hypothetical as you may have never handled it in the past. But the situation itself may be a pressing one for the interviewer and he is more relying on the candidate’s quality of response to these situational interview questions rather than the Resume itself.
The problem is never in answering the first question. It’s the series of questions that follow which can make the candidate lose sight of the situation itself. Below is an example of situational interview questions interspersed with process questions and the candidate is finally stumped. This is a funny take on situational interview questions, but good enough to highlight an important lesson while giving interviews.
Situational Interview Questions
Interviewer: You are sitting inside an Air Plane that has 500 bricks. You drop one outside. How many do you think are left with you in the Plane?
Applicant: That’s easy, 499.
Interviewer: Can you explain the steps to put an elephant into a fridge?
Applicant: 1) Open the fridge. 2) Put the elephant in. 3) Close the fridge.
Interviewer: And what would be the four steps to put a deer into the fridge?
Applicant: 1) Open the fridge. 2) Take the elephant out. 3) Put the deer in. 4) Close the fridge.
Interviewer: It’s the lion’s birthday, all the animals are there except one, why?
Applicant: Because the deer is still in the fridge.
Interviewer: How does an old woman cross a swamp filled with crocodiles?
Applicant: She just crosses it because the crocodiles are at the lion’s birthday.
Interviewer: Last question. While crossing the swamp, old lady still died, Why?
Applicant: Err….I guess she drowned?
Interviewer: No. She was hit by the brick you dropped from the Plane. You may leave now.
