The Woman

Tomorrow is Women’s day. Every year, it is celebrated. But today a why entered my brain. Why-man-why? Why do we celebrate Women’s day? I promptly checked the wiki, and then flipped a few more links. I was enriched with the pragmatic, philosophical, ethical, emotional views why we celebrate this day. Women are delicate, women are strong and women are this, that; women are…Women!

We celebrate womanhood. Okay, but why? Is this a female dominated society, where she has self acclaimed herself supreme power and so a day is observed to bow down before her supremacy – A ‘Why’men day! OR Is it a male dominated society where they have granted a day to the woman, to just make sure she understands that they acknowledge her presence in this world, at least for a day – A'Who'men day. OR is it an equal society? If it is a non sexist society then why we don’t celebrate Men’s day? We celebrate children’s day, even teacher’s day but not man’s day! Womanhood is worth celebrating, manhood isn't?

What do we do on a woman’s day? Well there are some irresistible sale offers, some exclusive offers, some promotional offers only for woman designed for only this day. The woo-man offers seriously work out well. The television is all set to air maa, maa ki mamta, IPS Durga, chandramukhi, Ek this Daayan all day to honour woman. Yes, some seminars, accolades, award ceremonies are organized all over the world but only a chunk of it are part of it. What about the majority of woman? How do we honour every woman of this world? Are they any less than others? Every woman is doing her share. Why there is no such system like tying a rakhi or a friendship band. I wonder is there any such custom that on Woman’s day no woman will be sexually harassed or ill treated, molested or raped, eve-teased or malice in any part of the world. Just for one day, she can travel in buses or roam around alone late at night or walk carelessly in a deserted street.

Do we need to celebrate it? A woman is a mother, daughter, sister, wife, lover to someone but to others she is a woo-man. A woman is unsafe, but I guess so is a man. He is at times just too vain to admit it. A woman is harassed so is a man. A woman is ill-treated so is a man. The predator sitting out there, is neither a man nor a woman, is an evil – waiting for its prey. A man thinks that a woman is suppressing her and a woman feels she is the victim. They both are because evil doesn't discriminate, and doesn't bother; just like nature – it does what it has to without thinking what the impact is!

Every single human being is a creation of a woman, may be that why ‘mother’ nature also came into existence. So, every single person has a share of woman in him/her as well. A women's day should be a day of the woman, by the woman for the woman. So, if we want to celebrate, then we should celebrate it for the woman within. Happy Woman’s Day!

We cannot despair of humanity, since we ourselves are human beings.
