The RD Burman Quiz Results

Thanks to all the participants of the RD Burman quiz.

We had six participants who attempted this quiz. A sincere thanks to all of them.

Sonia (@Snobbiest), Sajit (@hermit) and Nishant (@sydbarett) are the joint winners of this quiz with 10/10. Hearty congrats to them.

JAMS (@JaveedAhmed) and Tannadi (@astrofreak1234) came close with 8/10 and Saurabh (@SG21) scored 7/10.

Here are the answers to the questions:

1. SD Burman's father was Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman, the younger son of Ishanchandra Dev Burman, who was the King of Tripura.

   
   




2. RD Burman's nickname other than Pancham was Tublu.

   
   




3. RD Burman played the mouth organ (harmonica) ,in songs like Hai apna dil to awara, he also played the mouth organ in Dosti for music composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

   
   




4. Pyaar ka Mausam had the famous Tum Bin Jaaoon Kahan which was meant to be a Rafi show (5 version), but RD requested a song for Kishore and no doubt that Kishore's version was the bigger hit.

   
   




5. Lata Mangeshkar and Usha Uthup were originally supposed to have sung Dum Maro Dum, before many changes happened resulting in it becoming an Asha solo.

   
   




6. Mehmood offered the lead role of Bombay to Goa to Rajiv Gandhi, who refused, ensuring that Rajiv's friend Amitabh got to make his mark in Hindi movies.

   
   




7. It was rumored that SD was shocked by the music of Mehbooba Mehbooba from Sholay and suffered a stroke. This is believed to be false. However the song became controversial because the tune was inspired by a Demis Rousos song

   
   




8. Mere Naina Sawan Bhaadon was first recorded in Lata' s voice. Kishore after listening to the song for a week, learnt it and then recorded

   
   




9. The first movie for which RD Burman won the Filmfare award was Sanam Teri Kasam (1983).

   
   




10. Dev-Anand launched Sunil Anand in Anand aur Anand, Sunil Dutt launched Sanjay Dutt in Rocky, Rajender Kumar launched Kumar Gaurav in Love Story, and Dharmendra launched Sunny Deol in Betaab. Music for all these movies was composed by Pancham. Anand aur Anand unfortunately did not succeed.
