The Namesake

By: Sachchibaat | Posted May 13, 2008 | Movie | 470 Views

I happened to watch The Namesake the last night on TV. I must confess that it drove me to tears. I had already watched poignant defeat of BRC in the hands of KEP.

Coming to the movie, it is a masterpiece, by all accounts. It latches on to you visually and auditorily - the Calcutta of 70s is covered like a piece of art, so is the New York and its snow covered landscape. The background score could not have been better.

But what stands out is the way loss is treated in the movie and how many times value of someone taken for granted all along is realised after he is not there. The scene in which son visits the hotel room of the father is especially heart rending.

Irrfan and Tabu are a class act as is the boy Kal Penn. I have become a huge fan of Nair and Jhumpa.
