The Gift called Life: My reflections.

By: rahulilr | Posted May 27, 2009 | General | 306 Views | (Updated May 27, 2009 11:42 PM)

Life, is marvelous.

Life is beautiful.

Life is Intelligent.

Every one you know, every one you love, every one you can think of shares this gift, with you, on the little blue planet called earth.

How life came into existence may still be debatable, but not that its the best 'accident' that has ever happened. Think of the refinement of every single cell of human body, think how efficiently your blood clots when you get a cut (instead of you bleeding to death), think of the beauty you can see because you have a pair of binocular eyes, think of the music you can listen to because of the superb stereophonic ears, think of the machinery which extracts energy out of food and your breathing of oxygen, and the mother (or father) of everything, your brain. All I can say, is WOW!!

Humans, are the most intelligent form of life known (yet), they are surely very-very complex and fairly advanced in there biological and chemical functions. However, even the simple forms of life, lets say even a humble one celled organism is, in itself, quite a masterpiece of engineering. The most sophisticated machines ever made by man, are by far, hardly a match for the sophistication of the natural machinery of life.

Every time I see a Life form, I wonder, how feeble, how small we are in comparison to the 'great designer'(more on this on the blogs to follow). Beauty, of the machinery, however lies not just at the bottom of the architecture, but at the macro level as well. Think how well balanced the various cycles of CO2, O2 etc is. Imagine how plants breathe CO2 and give O2 as a waste, animals which in turn breathe O2 and give out CO2. The plants converting sunlight, the only true source of energy to life, into food, and us, the animals, the parasites, deriving our food from plants, directly or indirectly.

In this great design, species using each other's wastes and co-existing, Life has thrived for the last 4 billion years (more about this later).

Well, this is all we already know. This is what they teach in elementary science. Whats the point, writing it all here? I don't know. I felt may be in our earthly en devours of who is who and what you got, in our hatred towards each other and self assumed supremacy , we at times, forget that every one is special, that every human, every animal, and every plant is as precious as anything can ever be.

a butterfly lives for one day and thinks its forever. We poor creatures (humans), live for few thousand days and think, it is, forever. We divide ourselves. We are Americans, Russians, Chinese, Indians, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, White, Black, North Indian, South Indian, Tamil, Kannada, Rich, Poor, Powerful, Downtrodden and every thing that can still divide. Some where, some day, we forgot the beauty of life. We forgot that this tiny little earth that all of us share, together, is nothing but a small stage in the vast cosmic arena, 70-80 years of life, an infinitesimally small fraction of the vastness of space and time. How justifiable is our behavior for a momentary glory in the fraction of a dot?

Think about all that we do. Think about the hatred and angst we have, for 'others'. Think about the relevance of it all. Just give it a minute and contemplate on why can't we be all, just like life has been for million of years, passionately in Love with each other and truly be the only 'intelligent' form of life known, yet.
