TO BE UNSWAYED BY PRAISE OR CALUMNY (A POEM)
To be unswayed by praise or calumny;
To live life not for adulation or approval;
To be not programmed by social pressures
Is to be genuinely awake, aware of realities.
To be a robot responding to worldly stimulation
Is not an uncommon phenomenon in humans,
Starving for sweet approbation to nurture life,
Ambitions, dreams and petty earthly goals.
Many mechanically exist and so do not really live
For to live is different from mere daily existence.
Fleeting moments of sensual gratification cannot be
Substitutes for elusive happiness they perenially seek!
Only the wise are awake; therefore blessedly aware
That one has to unlearn, de-addict one's soporific mind
Of illusions that have clouded clarifying perceptions,
Hindering the dawn of divine mysterious realities!
