A comment about Sania Mirza sparked a raw on a lot of issues of our nation, religion, sports, nationalities etc.

Saina Nehwal, one of the good ones also joined it indirectly and unintentionally, hearing about that and with my limited knowledge I also thought joining the debate but through Blog only. Here my topic of discussion will be only sports because both of the above mentioned personalities are primarily associated with sports and as per a section of society they have earned a lot of fame to our nation, have raised our national flag much higher, my views may be different from the basic league because I will consider the nation as a whole and will not get obsessed with sports.

In various debates our journalist and sportsperson compare our sports policy and sports system with international slandered of nations like USA and Australia, they shout a lot about facilities given to sportsperson there and keep complaining about our system which virtually gives nothing to our sportsperson. The only thing which strikes my mind again and again while thinking about this topic is that do we have any comparison with number of people sleeping hungry in both of nations? And this is my biggest concern.

Have we ever discussed about the differentiation between variants of sports i.e. for recreation and commercial? Or what is the overall objective if sports for a nation? To build wealthy cricketers? Formula one players?, the most expensive footballer? Or simply creating healthy citizens?(don’t think that I am a hardcore socialist and completely against commercial sports) the point is that as a nations we have very limited resources and a vast population to be served for it needs and because of that we cant spare huge amount of funds for commercial sports at least. What best can be done is that those who are earning millions out of sports must come forwards and contribute towards the sports budget. Over the period of time when we will join the race of developed nation and will have a capacity to feed and provide shelter to everyone than the sports budget may be upped with substantial amount but not today when we have other challenges which are far bigger than sports.

So let us not be obsessed with sports and our place on international arena or no. of medals in Olympics. our nations stature will be higher if we will have better education and food for all.
