Social learning theory

The social learning theory states that watching violence on TV nearly teaches people to be violent. Do you agree or not?

Yes I agree to the above mentioned statement. In fact I have seen and experienced many cases in real life of my friends, colleagues and even my own family members.

Basically and mostly it depends up on family, society and culture. As much as a person is cruel and violent is most appreciated and praised in our society and culture. This is all because of our tough culture, society and political situation of our country.

So in result children are too much affected and influenced by watching cruel and violent movies and are acting in the same manner. I have a nephew who is only six; he is very interested in watching cruel and violent movies.

If some one tries to change the TV channel he would become angry and would definitely start fighting. And if you ask him, what would you like to become? The answer you hear from him would be, “I am Osama Bin-Laden and I want to kill Bush.”

We can estimate from such kind of behavior that social learning is performing a crucial role in human beings life. There is another example of my own younger cousin who is in tenth grade of school. He was staying outside till late night and I found him that he was having a big knife with him he was not stealing, robbing, or killing anyone though.

Then why having knife? Because some of the illiterate people especially youngsters are having the custom of staying till late night out and having knife or pistol with them and they sometimes fight with other parties and this is a sign of brave man (among them).

As we are living in the same society so it is almost impossible not to be influenced by such kind of activities or customs. There are many examples with me I may not be able to mention all in here.

So finally I would like to conclude by saying that not only watching violent movies on TV make people act violently but also the family, culture, society, friends, neighbors, and political situation of a country influence the behavior of a human being.
