Scrubs for the Summer

Come summers and the body gets dehydrated. Over the past few years, I have used some scrubs especially in the summers. Over the past few years, I have researched on the web and jotted down some really some really excellent scrubs that one can use in the shower. Since I have a combination skin and lots of pigmentation, I go about looking for scrubs that suit my skin and lessen the pigmentation. Here are some excellent scrubs that have suited my skin.

The Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub

This is something that I tried out when I saw a cinnamon and sugar lip scrub in the market. Take half a teaspoon of very fine sugar and one-fourth teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Mix this with a teaspoon of olive oil. Scrub your lips with this to exfoliate them. Wipe it off with a tissue paper or with warm water. Your lips will feel moisturized.

Sesame Seeds and Rice Scrub

This is one of my favourite scrubs. Soak equal amounts of raw rice and sesame seeds in water overnight. Use the white sesame seeds. I take roughly about a tablespoon of each. Grind it to a paste in the morning. Use it either as a body scrub or a face scrub. While the rice exfoliates the skin, the sesame acts like a moisturiser. You can use this scrub even in the winters.

Cinnamon and Sugar Body scrub

One clean air tight container ( preferably glass)

2 tablespoons Olive Oil

1 tablespoon cocoa powder ( gives a nice fragrance)

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup white sugar

Put all the ingredients in a clean and a dry bowl. Mix all the ingredients very well. If you are using a hand blender, mix at a low speed for about a minute. Note that you need to have sugar with fine granules.

To use: Scrub all over your body when taking a shower or bath. You will need to store this in a sealed container so that the mositire does not seep in. Store it in your refrigerator. This has a shelf life of at least 4 months if stored correctly.

Note: Your fingers need to be dry when you are scooping out this scrub. The other alternative is that you could use a clean and dry spoon to take out as much scrub as you want in a small bowl to use in the shower.

Sugar and Lemon Scrub for feet and hands

1/2 cup of sugar (or salt, if preferred)

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons lemon juice

Take half a cup of sugar with fine granules and mix it with a tablespoon of olive oil and two tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply this scrub to your hands of feet and scrub thoroughly for at least 3 – 4 minutes. tWhen done, rinse briefly with lukewarm water and pat dry. Follow it up applying your favourite moisturiser. This will help your feet and hands feel softer. This has a 1-2 week shelf life. Please keep this scrub refrigerated.

You know if you could invest in a couple of small glass jars, you could make these scrubs at home and use it for gifting too This is what I plan to do this summer!
