Politeness sells, cheap prices don't

Hello everyone!


I'm posting this review for Jawed Habib's Hair X-Preso Salon in Chembur, Mumbai.


After hearing that the famous hair services chain provides haircuts for a price as low as Rs 99, I thought of visiting the parlour for one. Since it is located very close to Reliance Energy Bill Collection Centre, I visited the above mentioned branch for enquiry in July 2010, immediately after paying my electricity bill. The extremely reasonable prices for haircuts really compelled me to come back again for availing their services.


I became really busy with my studies after that and I couldn't visit the salon. So, when I actually found the time to visit it on Sunday 19 Sept, 2010, I called on the parlour number for an appointment.


However, the conversation that followed made me change my mind. Here are the excerpts (I have tried to use the exact words wherever possible):


Attendant: Hello.


Me: Is it Jawed Habib's salon?


A: Haan ji.


M: Haircut ke liye kya appointment lena padega?


A: Nahi madam, aise bhi aa sakte hain. Par aaj Sunday hai toh agar koi client aa gaya toh aapko 10-15 min rukna padega.


M: Mujhe matlab zyada time tak rukna nahi padega na?


A: Nahin madam, 10-15 min lagega. Isliye aap ek kaam kijiye - 12 baje ke aas-paas aa jaaiye.


M: Theek hai, main aa jaaoongi. Accha, Jawed Habib ka naya beauty parlour jo Chembur mein hi khula hai, kya aap mujhe uska number de sakte hain?


A: Nahin madam, aap personally aake yahan se leke jaaiye.


M: Arrey, unka Rs 500/- services pe free haircut ka scheme hai. Pehle main aur services loongi, phir main haircut karvaoongi na. (I was about to say, "Why should I waste my money on rickshaw tariff for simply coming and enquiring?", when that attendant interrupted.)


A:Dekho madam, abhi hum bahut busy hain.


M: Kaise log ho aap log. Naya parlour aap hi logon ka hai na, toh aapke paas number toh hona hi chaahiye. (Attendant hangs up the phone on me).


Post this conversation, I deemed it better to visit Enrich and pay a few more bucks and enjoy their courteous services. God bless that attendant with wisdom, esp. while dealing with customers, who are definitely more important than any work he might have.
